We have a detailed penetration system that calculates:

Distance to the target.
The specific gun and ammunition type.
The angle of impact against the target.
The actual armor layout of the vehicle (individual plates with their own thickness and slope are modeled).

The process is: first, we check for an armor penetration based on these physics. Only after a penetration is confirmed do we then calculate health point (HP) damage based on the shell type and the location it hit.

However, even if the armor is not penetrated, certain shells can still cause minor damage

Huh? People report they aready played multiplayer with unification. All old mods suppose to work with DE.
Issue is, there is no steam workshop, and you may face some unexpected glitches.

However, the new version has massive graphical glitches. On startup, it looks like this (https://imgur.com/a/abject-abyss-demo-weirdness-0TnhkaE), and it seems to change its resolution several times. I had to press Alt+Enter repeatedly to get around this (which thankfully worked).

When changing to the desktop, the fullscreen game (set to 2880 x 1620 resolution in my case) does not minimize itself but rather continues running in an arbitrary 1280 x 720 borderless window that occupies the upper left part of the screen (at 2880 x 1620, this is a bit less than a quarter of the screen).
