Yur. Idt this game is going to do well with a purchase + sub unfortunately. It's a bit greedy when, honestly, this game looks kinda mid. I'll still give it a try but damn. Player Pop will prolly be less than 1k upon launch.
You said you would give it a try, that's fair enough IMO. I was sitting on the fence until I watched enough gameplay.

But the OP is nuts, and it's also nuts to call subscriptions greedy in comparison to F2P. This game's developers would probably be happy with a player population that would force any F2P MMO to close immediately. I don't think you realize how much money F2P models exploit and manipulate out of their playerbases. Far more than any subscription MMO ever hoovered out of their playerbase in the entire history of videogames. Or did you think the industry's shift to F2P was simply a charitable act?

What I think it will come down to is the gameplay and, for some of us, storylines and "narrative paths" e.g. the way City of Heroes isn't mind-numbing for people with 50 characters because it isn't just one single story path; there are a lot of different story contacts and arcs. (Though initially, I'll go easy on them about this last part. When CoH first launched, it was basically a street sweeper simulator.)

If it's fun, people will play it, especially if it's fun to team. And I'm waiting to see for myself, just like everybody else. Most of my arguing on this forum is just aimed at AAA industry apologists, which is a far weirder thing to defend than an indie MMO.

Thinking about a Chain Lightning build. Need some advice.

There hasn't been any patch in a year or so, so the info within it should still be viable. New Game+ isn't on stable still yet.

CSPD makes charging faster and with enough of it, you can effectively instantly gold charge skills. Perfect Guarding attacks will hasten skill charge and discounts the EP cost of a single skill for a brief period after performing the guard.
CSPD also can change some other things in a few magic skills. Fireballs can shoot further and faster with higher CSPD, flame thrower will do more hits per second with high CSPD, melee skills with high CSPD usually animate quicker, etc.

I'm not sure if chain lightning is viable. What few chain lightning attempts I've seen, the boss fights lasted a very long time. Unsurprising for a skill that's meant to hit multi-targets simultaneously. Albeit, it's quick and easy to use and you don't even need to aim at the enemy most of the time.

Flamethrower is the exact opposite; extremely high risk, high reward spell when you hate that one guy in particular.
It's what I use, but I wouldn't recommend it to just anybody. With proper execution and set-up however, your damage will otherwise be unrivaled compared to anything else in the game.

Fireball is safe, reliable and does okay damage. With even just a tiny bit of CSPD you can easily shoot it across most boss rooms so long as your X or Y axis aligns with the enemy. You can only shoot it in the four main compass directions which can make it annoying to use as a main spell. No corner shots allowed, unfortunately.

My recommendation for keeping EP sustained for spam casting is to level your pet's health stat.
And yes, I said the health stat.

There is a blindfold you can eventually acquire which has the special effect of converting your HP into EP in a 5:1 ratio. It does this 15 times a second. Basically, for 75 HP a second, you recover an additional 15 EP.
The effect activates when your max EP is below 50% and your health is above 50%. If your HP dips below 50%, then the effect won't activate anymore.

For reference, an extra 15 EP/s is the equivalent of having an extra 250 EP Regen stat. The base amount of EP regen at 100 is 6 EP/s.

What this does is effectively allow you to use the first half of your HP bar as an extension to your EP bar, but you also get the additional benefits that having a high HP pool does (barrier soaks more damage, recovery effects heal more, etc).

And as a final bonus, the stats of the Haunted Blindfold are quite good just by itself.
Interesting, will have to look into this.
