benefits of playing Strategic games

Of course it might work either way, but i´m not so sure which leads to what in the majority of cases. There might also be a lot of entrepreneurs, or people who do "head heavy" work, who prefer simple games, or rather do sports - just to have something different.

Some people talk about "making my hobby a job". This works for some - for others it doesn´t work, because hobby and work are two different pair of shoes. Some might start to hate their former hobby, and for some it might work really well. Same is, when someone learns a job, but actually starts to like it - and also applies it in their free time if possible, even if they started it with mixed feelings.

For "strategic thinking" it´s quite the difference if You think about a strategy in some game - which You can do whenever You like - or when You have to think about a strategy to rob the people off their money, while the goal would be that these people think they made a good deal. Like in business strategy is about to benefit the company. And strategy is still the highest level of planning. While the usual plans in business are a bit like the weather report. Of course all plans would look positive, because else the companies wouldn´t get investors or loans. While it´s probably clear that many of these plans wouldn´t work out like this. If i should guess - i´d say that 99.9% of the plans don´t work out as planned. So actually instead of being good at strategic thinking, one has to be good in improvising stuff, short term, on the spot. It´s the same that 99+% of the new products don´t work on the market. But that doesn´t mean that 99+% of the people who made the decision to try it, are bad at strategic thinking - even if there´s evidence for it. It´s also the same that most businesses give up within the first 7 years, while most of them try to stay in business for too long, so the dept piles up. Like half of them fail in the first 5 years, and two third after ten years. But perhaps these people haven´t played strategy games for long enough. I don´t know.
