Rivals of Aether II wasn't a Good Idea.

I don't at all want a bunch of joke characters like what we get in Rivals 1, but I am sad they moved to 3D, kept parries, and added ledge specials. I basically just wanted Rivals 1, aesthetically, but for it to be more mechanically like Smash. They changed way too much at once. I think a new mode for the first game or a Rivals 1.5 sequel that sorta meets halfway could be good. It also sucks that Rivals 2 uses Unreal and doesn't run very well unless you crank all the settings way down.

While I don't agree with most of your reasoning, I think it's interesting that Rivals 2 kinda disappointed people on "both sides". I think more discussions with the community about what Rivals 2 should look like before the development was so far along could've maybe helped steer things in another direction. I did get the game and give it a chance despite my misgivings, but I don't think I even made it two weeks of playing Rivals 2 regularly before I was pretty sick of it.

I would recommend you try out some traditional fighting games if you're burned out on platform fighters. Personally I had never given them a shot and used to only play Smash and Rivals, but once you get the hang of the motion inputs and such, I actually think trad fighters are a lot more fun. I'd recommend BlazBlue Centralfiction and Melty Blood Type Lumina in particular. Both come with most or all of the characters for free and have good simple controls (4 attack buttons, ABCD). If you don't have an arcade controller, you can bind keyboard keys to act similarly to a leverless controller.

what a crap game

1. Quirks, while they *could* be fun, i got things that killed any fun, like a wheel that fell off when any door was opened in conjunction with a door opening when i turn left.... Turn left out of the garage, wheel falls off, get out, put wheel on, go to get in, open door, wheel falls off, you see the cycle.

In the couple-hundred hours of time I've legitimately put on this game I've never seen a quirk that bad, but then again I always fix all of my quirks the instant I see them occur, unless it's something funny like honking when you slam the trunk.

But going from context it also sounded like you just didn't fix the quirk(s) in the garage?

2. Anomalies being spawned on top of the player when grabing anchors
<snip for brevity>
So yes, one thing the game does to throw you off is to sometimes spawn anomalies around you--that is the driver, specifically--when you pick up an anchor.

The first time it's a surprise, though honestly I've played enough games in my life to know that sort of chicanery was coming...and once you've had it happen, you can plan for that. I regularly park the car away from anchors specifically to avoid things like that damaging the car in the first place, but even so, there are preventative countermeasures you can take to help depending on the zone and what anomalies are spawning.

For your example, minutemen don't spawn directly under you, and as long as you don't give them a moving target, they won't keep popping up to cut you off. The simple counter if you see them spawning in to not move. Just stay put away from their beams and wait them out; they might surround you but as long as no beams are connecting, you're fine.
Shocking Speed especially means you should keep the car a distance away from the anchors to avoid it getting blasted by a surprise party.
Bunnies? Dodge them if they're targeting you directly, or if they're targeting the car, use the vacuum to intercept them mid-flight.

And so forth, and so forth. With some planning ahead you shouldn't be dying like that to anomalies. Preparation and knowing what you're getting into makes the game much easier, but that goes for literally any rogue-lite or whatever they're called these days. Same goes for dying penalties: yeah, it sucks, but that's your incentive to learn how to play the game and not die.

Yeah, there are setting to change those things, but should the basic. "Start here" difficulty be hardcore minus save deletion? Especially when there is only one setting option lower, so either wimp mode, or hardcore...
This is just plain incorrect.

"Pacific Drive" with default settings is how the game is intended to be played. The closest thing to "hardcore with no ironman" is Olympic Excursion, which is several steps removed from the default difficulty and is much tougher.
Like, there's a learning curve to it, but PD is not that difficult on its own if you can accommodate the game's dance it expects you to perform.

There's also two easier flavors of settings. "Joyride" is one step down, and "Scenic Tour" is the easiest settings by default (you literally can't die).

...i might not be the most elloquent about how i say it, but what rule/law says i have to sugar coat anything? The game isnt for me, plain and simple.
Sure, but there's a difference between "the game isn't for me" and "the game is unforgivable trash; if this forum post means you avoided buying the game, then yay."

We get no shortage of crashout posts from people who died and lost their stuff, and 99% of the time it's just them needing to take a deep breath or two before coming back to it with maybe a different approach. Most of them, however, do not go on to pick needless fights with the rest of the forum.
