you can probably fill the hole with stone/dirt/wtv material you have in your hand and made the option (seen at the bottom left screen when holding a natural material) to "ADD" (and not paint) it on the ground.
Alternatively you could try as well tu use the rake to rise up the soil...

I would recommend you to try a different game instead. I absolutely understand that, gameplay wise, it's not going to be everyones cup of tea to need to deal with slower projectiles like there are in Hunt.
