The difficulty is only a factor for the new players. But there are many it would seem.

Today for the first time I did a swath of this op solo, as in not with my friend group. My outlook on it has completely changed. I still hold by my previous statement that its easy peasy with a group of at least two other competent players. But if your solo, yea. Out of ten games I won 3 and lost 7. One of those games I ended up being the last alive and had to solo 11 ships (7 in one group and the rest in a second group). It was one of my best plays ive ever done in a operation. Pure pro level (and those that know me on this forum know that I am loathe to brag or give myself credit).

Even with that once in a lifetime performance we still lost. At the end I had 1600 score and the person below me had 585. With the average of the team at 303.

This is not isolated. So, if I am not the problem (skill wise) then what is to create such a different outcome? Bad luck? For sure could have been a factor, but in 10 games you figure thats not likely.

I know the answer and its something that has vexd me for years. The fact they give out loaner ships for the operations. It means at least HALF your team has no business being there. Then add in the regular bads who dont need a loaner and yea.

I personally think they need two ques for events probably tier restricted. One for new players and people with t3-6 ships and the other for norms. Maybe even a flag ship level op for decent players.

None of this will happen. Its pretty much get a friend or two OR prepare to suffer (luck depending).

You clearly did not look at any of those images. I also likely started playing before you as my first hunt was Christmas of 2004.

Also, what HR did you make it to in MH1? Dont claim you dont remember either, because that would be a flat out lie.

Nothing to keep up with the monsters in this title? Are you sure about that? Cause I quite frankly know that is false. I have no problems soloing any of the monsters in this game, they don't feel like damage sponges even with my non meta set. "OHH NO I TOOK 8 MINUTES ON A SEREGIOS!!!" god forbid a hunt last that long. There isnt a move he can one shot me with either, unless I have less than 80% hp.

At that point, you seem to just be getting skill issued, hard. Which makes it less believable that you would have touched and of the older titles for more than a couple hours.

Oh, something I forgot to address as well, a fight lasting 8 minutes isn't an issue at all. I'm not talking about a fight lasting long overall, back then some fights used to take me the entire time and some fights were basically forced to last 25 minutes long to repel a monster.

Lots of boss monsters have long fights, that's not the issue at all. The issue is the scaling of these monsters while being heavily restricted in your own tools. I don't think I mentioned the length of hunts at all? Because a long hunt is fine so long as the gameplay is actually fun.

There were only two monsters back then that I couldn't solo on my own. I remember using Dual Dragon Ultimus Heaven and Earth in Freedom Unite to successfully repel the White Fatalis but I never killed him solo. The next monster I wasn't able to beat on my own was Gogmazios and I remember using the Anubis insect glaive against him. I'd just wear Star Knight armor since that looked the coolest B).

but my entire point has nothing to do with the length of a hunt. It's about making a genuinely fair game. Look at dark souls 1, 2 and 3. I think it's hard to argue that bosses in one and three were genuinely unfair. That one tree lady boss in DS1 is probably the biggest contender for that but none of the fights in there did I actually feel were unfair.

Now look at dark souls 2, the bosses in those games, while I would say were still mostly fun, a lot of them were unfair, but more in the sense of them not being fully finished it seemed. Like genuinely broken hit boxes on Fume Knight especially is what annoyed me the most. You can look at a franchise that outsiders see as a notoriously "difficult" one, but if you actually play the games you can see and compare the bosses for yourself. There's a very clear difference in quality and fairness of the fights in DS2 and DS3. Smelter Demon is another one that's just kind of stupid as a boss since it makes you spam life gems to counter the constant AOE. Or the design of where they'd place mobs in DS2 compared to the other games as literally being designed to just screw over the player.

Mauler, on youtube, made a very good series on why DS2 sucks in how it was designed. For me, I'd compare that to Wilds. Not the hit boxes in wilds, those are insanely good. There are many times where I've been surprised that I didn't get hit because my character is swinging their sword and ducking while a monster swings right over me and I'm amazed that the hit boxes are so tight in this game. They were great in Rise as well. World, I don't remember.

And here, end game in wilds, I have my armor that I want, it's maxed out, I have the weapon that I want... and there's really no point to continue further. Because the only new content they introduced were the same monsters just scaled up. Lagiacrus's underwater section is a completely stupid joke that is actually just the worst. Seregious is cool to see again after a while, but what rewards do these monsters actually give you?

I only play great sword, I have both of their great swords but I don't use them because I find my other one better for how I like to play, which is to create as many wounds on the monster as possible and punish/heal with those wounds.

You guys act like I updated the game, played it once, died and then raged in the forums lmao. Which ok, that's funny. But it's not what happened. I logged on, I played with my friends and I just found that I wasn't having fun... So I decided to post this and you took personal offense to it, it seems.
Nah, what people here dont like is when people lie thinking it will make them seem more valid. "ive been here since the beginning".
Also you dodged it so I'll ask again, if you have been here since the beginning, what HR were you in MH1?

There was one instance of a near full stack (16 I think? )of greater demons getting nuked by Kroak though that was thousands of years before the current setting.
Yeah that was pre-Vortex during the first Great War, when Daemons just appeared wherever they liked whenever they liked. I had assumed the question was specifically about post-Vortex when daemons appearing was actually a big deal instead of just a regular threat.
It's the only example of that number of greater demons showing up in one place that I could think of and as mentioned it long predates the current setting so a similar event happening would need a pretty serious reason behind it, not a simple summoning.

Holy hell... okay I am going to take this as your answer, but it seems I would need to create an actual list of every named character in the entire franchise for there to be an actual in depth discussion. Because Kroak, Nagash and Sigmar could (and have in one way or another) held back whole armies on their own not to mention that Abhorash, Aenarion, Tyrion, Teclis, Grimgor, Valten, Death master Snitch, Grombrindal, Gotrek, Felix, Setra, Krell, Bragg the Gutsman, Chakax, Kroq-gar and Vlad are all lord snipers in their own rights, some of which having killed multiple other named characters and even posed a threat to Arch during his time as everchosen or threatened past everchosen during their time.

That says nothing of the less powerful named characters who can barely kill hounds and human cultists or slay demons and chaos warriors with ease or the dozens of characters that can spawn their own armies to add numbers to the named character forces, hell you could even through any of the named everchosen into the mix as well because this force doesn't have an alignment other than to fulfill the objective of the scenario being pressed upon them by the player (though these everchosen would be much less powerful as they would lose the active backing of the chaos gods and be forced to make do with whatever personal power they have or possibly demon/enchanted weapons they still have the will to use.) And this means that characters like Nagash can't act in their own intrests outside of fulfilling the objective nor can other factions interfere with either side (for example the skaven blowing up the moon would be a potential problem for both sides). The named character army could be gigantic just given how many named characters exist in the franchise as their are tens of thousands if not in the low hundreds of thousands of named characters in warhammer fantasy, some being able to pull their own weight whilst others being akin to demigods but they are not few in number or weak (even warhammer 3 has around 100 legendary lords in game, ignoring hero's). However just one character like Abhorash would fail, he might kill Archaon but the objective of stopping the end times incursion wouldn't be within his capabilities.
Well Kroak is dead, Sigmar is a god (and as a mortal had help in every army battle he was ever in), and Nagash is arguably both but was present in the End Times regardless so we already know what his force multiplication is in that regard.

And yes there are absolutely lots of lord snipers, but now you're framing this as "how many named characters would it take with absolutely no other assistance to stop the full might of Chaos from wiping out civilization as we know it" not "who can kill Archaon". Beating Archaon would cause the horde to fall apart, but I gave that as a pertinent answer before I realized that the prompt involved literally nobody else in the world besides those named characters ever resisting the descending horde. With that now in mind the ultimate answer is very different, and in order to reach the end result you're fishing for you need to keep stretching and stretching and stretching the credibility of the actions any of those characters would actually ever take to get anywhere near where you want it to go let alone the actual canon power level of most of them.

Again I cannot stress enough that hundreds, even thousands, of named characters would not overtake the hundreds of thousands of enemies they would be facing on that hypothetical battlefield without having any backup whatsoever. Don't forget that you not only have the marauder chaff, and the brotherhoods of Chaos Warriors, and the wedges of Chaos Knights, and the monsters, and the sorcerers, and the daemons, but you have a significant fraction of those hundreds of named characters there too who if we're gamifying this prompt to ensure that nobody acts in accordance with their own canon personalities wouldn't be either. More if we think it's going to be like the End Times or other such events where the forces of Chaos do also inevitably include the Skaven, a far more likely event than ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Aenarion somehow being involved in this (at what point did you imply that dead characters counted in this too before now?).

So sure yeah if we take it at its most ideal-conditions-in-a-white-room then you could lump all the named Slann and Elf archmages together into a magical artillery line that never tires out for some reason and just wipe out all the chaff while Abhorash and Grombrindal walk up to Archaon and take turns smashing his nuts while Greasus holds him down and Skarsnik records it to upload to CabalVision, but then you've reached a scenario so far removed from the setting that I can't take it seriously anymore. The lore isn't like Total War, named characters don't generally have a fifty thousand hitpoint pool that just lets them ignore anything referred to solely by its job title. For all the quasi-important characters we see the named characters dunk on, we have just as many examples of them struggling against (or even losing to) random shmucks or groups of faceless mooks.

Nagash got kicked out of Nehekhara by an uprising of regular humans the first time, as did the original Vampires. Karl Franz got put out of commission for months from a single projectile spell and only didn't die outright because his magic item absorbed enough of it to prevent it from being fatal. Settra got one-shot by a random Norscan raider who happened to have an enchanted fire weapon. Numbers matter. Numbers matter a *lot*. Without Sotek's intervention all of Lustria would have probably fallen to the Skaven despite all of the named Lizardmen ostensibly being involved in the conflict.
All the named slaan put together could just bury most of the mortal chaos army, I don't recall if it was here or elsewhere but I remember there being an argument over whether the Lizardmen at their height could stop Archaon and his horde and the concesous being all the non-demons get buried alive, the survivors of that and the demons get eaten and overrun by lizards who are later assisted by even more slaan magic towards the end of the conflict because supposedly the first incursions were better suited to surviving fights with the lizardmen.

But that obviously isn't the only route to winning or the most efficient in terms of numbers of main characters seeing as Kroak could probably produce a similar or some sort of equivalent feat on his own. And While sigmar had help he was demi-god level and even his future empowered champions did pretty well on their own like Valten getting close to beating Archeon before Grimgor nutcrackered him. Settra flat out marched into hell as if he thought he was doomguy in the end times and I don't recall him dying to a Norscan when he was still a mortal back in Nehekhara...

But from a general standpoint this is the characters being directed by something they can't resist, contemplate or defy (the player) same way as it is in game (Or on tabletop I suppose) and they would be acting like an army rather than a bunch of one-man bands (two-man band in the case of Gotrek and Felix if they were in the final group picked) and they would be allowed to strategize like throwing Abhorash at Archaon to break the cohesion of the chaos forces or perhaps setting up a wall of undead or a magical barrier to slow the enemy advance forwards in hopes of the enemy suffering attrition.

disagree honestly. everything ive seen from the teasers and dev thoughts' has almost always made me raise an eyebrow in confusion. when it comes to items, the box of explosives and orphaned core seem fine (even though OC makes me incredibly frustrated from a lore perspective because it makes no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense how it got into a chest to begin with), but the Deus Ex Machina just seems like a worse version of Jade Elephant, and Faraday Spurs just seems like a better version of Red whip, which wouldn't be a problem if it werent for the fact that theyre both in the same damn item tiers. The enemies also have their fair share of problems, as the drill enemies, despite being on the ground, seem to have no walking animation, and just glide across the ground because reasons. then there's the enemies which can disable/steal your items, which on the one hand looks like it could be absolutely infuriating to deal with, but then again, they seem easy to dodge and also offer up a new form of challenge, which I think everybody could agree SotS severely lacked. the fire guys look cool though, and i like how they can combo their oil attack with their fire to cause an explosion. finally theres the drones, all 7 of them. first of all, the fact they used these guys as an excuse to only add 15 items in this DLC is laughable considering you only get 7 new ones. if there was like 15 new drones, i would be fine with that, but instead we got only 7. second of all, the freezing drone. wtf? why did we need to give every character in the game the same execute that only arti, railgunner, and chef have? does that not seem OP as ♥♥♥♥ that you can just casually reduce and non-boss enemy's (and mithrix's) HP by 30%? absolutely mental.
do you honestly have anything good to say
