It doesn't prevent piracy even for a day. Websites selling stolen offline activations tokens for a buck or two and groups sharing them for free exist. The illegitimate consumptions moved there.
All games using Denuvo Anti-tamper require a recurrent online connection, just not a constant one. You may play a while offline but at some point you will need to go back online.

This is a market demand expressed by a multitude of people, I am expressing it, I have a right to decide how to spend my money and to state the terms for it.

In my Qing game recently, I essentially ended up with one of every basic production building in each region. It's honestly a bit insane but the China pop can handle it. That's the only way I ended up with no peasants by the end and my GDP was absurd.
