The U.S. Plummets to Historic Lows in the World Happiness Report

So many Americans will just dismiss it like it's not based on relevant facts, statistics, etc and instead just scoff at it and say "I don't believe it", call it a day and not refuse to give it any thought or meaningful research just to satisfy their jingoistic/nationalistic confirmation bias.

In fact, I'm surprised the United States is even that high on the index, being at 24. For many Americans, it feels much LOWER than *24*, much lower.

Despite that it's the richest country on the planet and very high gdp per capita etc etc, it sure is a cesspool in some ways.

Guns being everywhere doesn't really make it any better, it makes it much worse obviously.

People underrate the U.S.A. significantly. Average median wealth is comparable to Spain and Italy which places it in a fairly middling state relative to E.U. member states, which makes sense given the magnitude of the country. Homicides are mostly consolidated to a few hot-spots, mostly south of the border.[www.cdc.gov] Montana actually has the highest rate of gun ownership[worldpopulationreview.com] in the union, followed by Wyoming, but the homicide rate is actually somewhat below national average in those states. It's higher than Mississippi or Louisiana where there are the most homicides.

If it was just gun ownership, you'd expect homicides to track with gun ownership but it really, really doesn't. Really looks like gang related activity from Latin America creeps up into the U.S.A.

Also, believe it or not, the U.S.A. is just about as safe as it ever was, even before Columbine started this mass shooting trend. The reason the U.S.A. feels so dangerous is because homicides remained stable in the U.S.A., whereas they've been plummeting downwards in European countries.[ourworldindata.org] Used to be that homicides were actually higher in Europe up until around 2006 or so. Also, if it was just the U.S.A's. attitude towards guns that were keeping homicide rates up, you'd expect there to be relatively. If you want really dangerous nations, then Latin America is your place to go.

I don't think more restrictive gun laws will help the U.S.A. much. I wrote a rather extensive post about it in an older topic though. I don't want to tread over that again.

its not just the us but nice bait

You're completely right.

The rot has spread to other countries.

However, do you know why Scandinavian countries are happier? They maintained social safety nets. They invested in public goods. They treated healthcare and education as rights rather than privileges. They didn't surrender their countries to the elite class.

I think it's mostly 'cause those scandinavian countries are smaller. It's harder to have a high rate of homelessness when you're not trying to squeeze 8.49 million people into 300 square miles like N.Y.C., whereas Finland only has 5.64 million people.

I just posted about that in another topic but the topic was deleted for some reason. Maybe 'cause I pointed out we had another similar topic lately. Kind of annoying since I added some points to the more recent post since the last time.

But also the report values wealth equality for wealth equality's sake as a separate category if I recall correctly, and when a country has a larger than normal share of wealthy people such as the U.S.A., wealth inequality is going to be high even if poorness is low.

Question about the soulslike tag

You literally did.

"It artificially lengths the game without adding new content!"

There is literally nothing but your personal enjoyment when playing though the NG+ modes, that's why it's called a "NG+" mode.. Placement of enemies, enviromental traps, unique or rare drops related to levels, bosses, phases and so on are all there.. If you finish the game and go "Oh, I don't want to play the NG+ mode" Than that's fine.

It's not bad design to have a NG+ mode. You're just salty. this is the most weak-mind ♥♥♥♥ i've heard, You say this on any souls-like forum you can cuz all your doing is looking for salt.

"It asks you to do the same thing again and again!"

If your refering to checkpoints.. Yes.. because you died.. you didn't solve the puzzle, you failed the puzzle and it's asking you to do it again because you failed. This is the core reason why save-state instant reloads aren't designed into most every single game.. Halo's campaign? You didn't solve the combat sandbox puzzle.. Nioh? You didn't solve the enemy pairing puzzle,

"Limiting heals because devs are scared to design a boss or encounter around player skil"

You've never played the game, you've literally no clue what you're talking about, This isn't a bad design, this is an emphesis on execution. Nioh and most other souls-likes either give you the option. or remove the option to hide behind a shield, if you choose to do such, it's your expression as a low-skill player that you rely on such. Nioh doesn't allow such.. Bosses will very often push you around if you're not ready or if you don't know how to push on a stun or use your abilities to their best combo.

LIterally the thing your complaining about.. "Limited heals = Lack of challange" is the *EXACT* opposite of what you want? You want bosses not to be an endurance game? You limit the amount of heals you have.. you make a mistake? you take damage. you get (X) number of heals to recover that mistake.. If you have unlimited heals.. EVERYTHING becomes about passive and defensive safe widdling and healing the slightest bit of damage.

You don't hate "souls-like mechanics". I think you're just begging for a reason to hate something. You're also a terrible armchair game dev. These are not bad mechanics. You just don't like them.

What a waste of my time reading this comment lol... I dont know who tf mentioned anything about NG+? Especially since NG+ is a good design. Especially since a lot of NG+ games add additional content behind it. I also dont know who brought up shields? Are you even reading the correct discussion? Bruh. Even responding to this for so long is a waste of my time because you dont have a single point. You just pull topics out of your ass.

Just for you since you couldn't actually argue a single point.. all you did was go.. "Uhh.. no?"

Go on. what's being repeated in Nioh? oh what's that, you've never played these games and just latched onto "It bad, so it bad"
