Not sure about Aqualis as I haven't been there.
Is Aqualis the same? If so, not sure I want to go through it.

Aqualis has even less.

It does feel like less effort was put into designing Selenea and Aqualis. At least Selenea has some remnants of civilization to explore, but overall there's something very "basic" about its terrain. Like they're rough drafts that never got refined later.

Apples and oranges, my friend. You paid for the main game - the moons are just a free update. Did you expect a whole new game or something? They are supplemental to the two planets, both of which require payment (although not much, considering).

To access the moons you must have paid for Prime at least, but of course both moons are less complex than the planets.

Each is quite different from the other, and both are well worth terraforming and exploring - and both change somewhat as they develop, which can lead to a player missing quite a lot of interesting stuff if s/he's not paying attention, or has his/her expectations on something else...

I don't think this is correct. Prime set the bar, so it's kind of expected that the moons at least be in the ballpark of that level of detail, even if it's on a considerably smaller scale. But the difference in terrain design is quite drastic.

If the excuse is two free moons were designed, maybe it should have only been one so more time could have been devoted to it. IMO, Selenea could have used more time to make its terrain more interesting and its open areas more distinct (and maybe more thought put into how intrusive those Redwo trees can get) because it's definitely the more interesting of the two moons. Heck, Selenea's starting area is actually pretty good, but as you go out, it gets noticably less detailed.
