Have any of you ever watched an apocalyptic themed movie? Have any of you ever watched the ORIGINAL game trailer for 7 Days to Die? Do the Devs even remember it?

It starts off with what I will call 'the lucky find.' The protagonist has nothing then, suddenly, he has warm clothes and good boots and a weapon. 'The lucky find' is like a major aspect in apocalyptic survival stories... This book/progression system takes that crucial story aspect and tosses it in the garbage. It paints the whole game world in that lackluster grey monotony of searching for ... the same thing ... everywhere ... a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ book. Seriously.

You KNOW you'll NEVER have that lucky find because ...progression. You don't want the players becoming too powerful too fast.. I get it. But, now, when you enter a military camp EVERYONE who plays the game KNOWS what they are going to find... a handful of rounds, some parts, and maybe a piece of armor and 6 magazines about underwater basket weaving. Thrilling.

BUT, did you consider that just because you find something GOOD doesn't mean you'll be any GOOD at using it. That's where REAL EXPERIENCE comes from ... doing and using.

It seemed like the original idea was scouring the apocalyptic corpse of a dead world desperately searching for ANYTHING USEFUL. Scrounging and cobbling together whatever you could to defend yourself against the coming dark tide. It seems like that idea got lost along way. Keeping that feel and creating a good progression system has to be a hard thing to pull off. I really don't get how the books came into the picture and why someone thought tying all the progression to them was so important that it needed to leach into the overarching theme of the game and take it over.

I dunno. Maybe we'll all read about it in a magazine we find some day.

I watched Glock9's new farmer glock series yesterday. He was looting and went from a lv1 bone knife straight to a lv1 hunting knife.

You can still get good finds in loot.
