Yeah as you gain resources you can level up the starting buildings in a region just like you can add starting bulidings to your attack force; but its a fresh map each time.

Otherwise the game would be impossible to attack on because you'd appear into a map full of captured and defended resource points with turrets on everything and such.

Well, exactly THIS is the case in Dark Crusade.

I find the solutions of SS better, however. You can build building on the stratetic map, and these will stay. (e. g. you only need to build them one time.) And when you play Adeptus or defeated that factions, you can build these beuilding right before you attack the first time. In comparison to dark crusade, however, the cost of pre-purchased units adn building is quite expensive.!

In DC, the computer starts with higher resources and is able to build faster. They even may get a pre-determined base (or even more than one.). I think, this is to balance out the fact, that your base you built during RTS-games stays. (you can't build on the stratetic map instead. With the exception of a storm-base, if you conquered the according province.)

Iin comparison to SS, defating a faction in DC will just eliminate it of the game. (except provinces, which were occupied by that race. They will stay until conquered.) To ge severa lpowers, you need to conquer special provinces, which all have special goals. But those missions are much easier than in SS. In SS you just need to conquer an enemy-home to get their power. And you start with a power special to your race. (The adeptus start with the strom base-power. The space-marines start with the shock-troop-power.)

There is also a power similar to the space-port of DC. This is the dark-eldar-power. But you can't attack EVERY province. Instad you can attack any province with a portal. (normally, they're linked to special others.) The eldar have the power similar to the aggession-attack of DC. With the differnce, that they may move 2 provinces at once without attacking and stil have only one attack per round. (The DC-power enables two attacks per round. II'm not sure, if you can move more than one province without attacking, too...)

All in all, DC is more interesting, misison-wise. There are less "just skimish"-maps than in SS. SS has two "just skimish-maps"-types: one, where you need to destroy every forstress of the enemy and one, wher you need to hold more than 50% of the stratetic-points. (These are the portal-maps.)

in DC, there is only one "just skimrish"-map-type: destroying your opponents fortresses. BUT, there are a lot of other maps with special missions. One being the home-province of a faction, the other is to get a pecial power. This makes 12 special maps in DC vs. 8 in SS. (6 powers+6 factions, and in SS 8 factions, because you don't fight against yourself...) At least, I believe it's 6 powers in DC. it also may be 8. I didn't realy count them.
