What is not being factored here is the positive effect of Jagex. Mostly because we don't know, but I can assume the brotherly patriotic Croatian spirit had to have some humble pie due to financial concerns and if Jagex didn't step in, we may not have SCUM at all. So if this is an accurate assessment, then we all owe Jagex a big thank you. And to expand on that assessment that would give them credible sway over game production if they chose to do so. The game where it is, is awesome. Like any game though there are endless improvements that could better the game from all player perspectives, but for what can be done for a business expense to returning the investment, that we cannot see as the amounts are never shared.

For that, it is a severely antiquated business ethic. Outdated theory can be updated and experience greater return than can be understood. Hypothesize this with me for a moment. Imagine a more transparent method. In 2022 Jagex purchases Gamepires for the equivalent of 500k. I have no idea what the value truly was, but lest say it was that. Most business ventures hope to get a steady ROI of 5-10%, so that would mean by 2032 the game needs to generate about 550k-600k over the cost of running costs. Again, no idea on how they structured their business or what they are paying for office space, utilities, servers, employees ads etc. Lets factor all that at 300k/year again, no idea and I'm not taking the time to resource it. 300k over 10 years is clearly 3M, ad that to the 550-600k so we'll call it an even 3.5M.

Post that crap! Show what the income stream is and watch as your true supporting players assist more with your dinky DLCs to keep the game going. That is the way of things these days. Crowd sourcing and funding is something as mainstream these days as online dating. These numbers may be way off, either higher or lower, this isn't my gig, but I feel that for a game as old as SCUM is, if innovation means anything to you, you first need to start with transparency driven motivation, if the other method isn't working.

Now you could say maybe it is working. It's possible, though it doesn't seem to be the case with additional staffing reductions, department realignments, update vagueness. Again, let me point out I still love the game and hope it makes it to 2.0 at least, but I feel with a second round table of non-working business heads trying to think this out like a cackle of witches stirring a cauldron waiting for divine enlightenment, I feel it won't make it much beyond 2026. Which makes me sad because it has the roots to flourish.
