If you are part of the 1% that is focused on esports or crap like that, perhaps. The rest, normal players will for sure know if they will enjoy playing multiplayer in first hour. You are not paying the price of a car, you are paying the price of going out to see a movie with your mates. Now if you are one of those players that plays for like 500 hours and then decides it was not worth it I don't know what to tell you but if you go for more then 50 hours or so in a game, it for sure pays for itself.

You can skip tutorials in most games and you can also skip cinematics. Before you even start the game you can see a ton of gameplay as your wait for launch. All you need is to "feel" how it plays and how it runs on your system.

if you really need to play the entire game and for hours and hours to figure out if you like a game, I really don't know what to tell you. If you listen to other people you are STILL getting other people's opinion.

Now perhaps if its one of those games that has complete media blackout and you don't know what you are buying.. Perhaps but with the amount of day 1 reviews, gameplay videos and everything else + 2h of gametime and you can't make up your mind, my man, you are really stingy with your money.

I got even DOW 3 and I knew from the start how it was like, still kept it for the campaign and the skirmish games I did end up doing.
I mean generally I'm able to tell a game is trash without touching it at all. Just replied to your previous sentences. Also reviews don't mean much with majority of players being casual/liking anything. I remember regretting ck3 or darkest dungeon as they were advertised and reviewed as hard but they ended up being too easy.
Also I got 1k+ games on Steam alome. So not that stingy. I just don't like paying full price for crap released today.
And anyway as I mentioned earlier, pre orders simply kill quality of games.

So if you wait, what exactly do you use to determine if you like a game or not? Initially I expected that if someone is waiting, he is waiting to see a proper review of the entire game. If reviews are not it, what is the point of waiting? You will be getting second hand information any way you slice it even if you wait. Now I will admit you will get MORE information if you wait but tis still in that ballpark.

Majority of people are just like you and they can tell a game is trash even before they open the game assuming they do even the most basic of research before spending money. Now real casual gamers? Those are not here, they play on consoles between feeding the baby and taking out the garbage.

Now if you want to wait because you want a discount and save money that is 100% a valid reason, that is also what I do with most games bar those I really want. I just don't see it as a way of avoiding a bad game. To avoid bad games you already have all the tools you need to do so.

From what I've heard its even worse if you buy and then refund, it messes up their statistics. Then again, this could be wrong. Now what I really think its killing the quality of games is what's happening in the industry right now and what they are trying to push, that is why companies like Ubisoft are having serious issues. As long as you refund the game, the company does not get money and eventually with all the crap they try to push they will need to course correct or impact the wall at full speed.
