EA totally lost the plot. What a Battlefield game suppose to be, here's a recipe and a breakdown.

This is true. Battlefield 3 was the first major shift towards DICE selling out and trying to be like Call of Duty. And the players of classic Battlefield were so outraged by it that DICE shut-down and wiped their forums, where the devs used to directly interact with posters, to remove the pages of furious criticism and mocking over how bad and how much of a downgrade Battlefield 3 was for the main series.

I was there on the forums complaining too haha.
They labelled us the denizens of Mordor and shut it all down:steamhappy:

I also remember the BF3 'Beta' - same thing there as here, people complained about the map size, class reworking, 3D spotting and other bits. We did say that it looked very good though.
They blustered about how the other maps were bigger, and told us we were having fun wrong in regards to the other points.
Then the game released and it was mostly a brain-dead shooter where none of our points had been addressed because we were scum who just liked to complain.
Oh and when it released they had added a blue filter to the visuals which made everything look awful and made your eyes hurt - they said it was cinematic..

All the while the simps posted in defence of the devs-
It's just a Beta.
They'll fix all the problems.
They're not dumbing it down, they're making it more accessible.
If you don't like it you were never a BF fan so just leave.
and so on..

I'm so glad I stopped wasting time and money on this franchise - beyond coming back every release to see how much worse it gets.

(Does anyone else remember when BF4 released in a broken state and all the devs went on holiday for 2 weeks- except the community manager who was posting on social media about taking a ♥♥♥♥ and feeding his cat milk.
Pepperidge Farm remembers).

The DICE forums were some of the very most high-quality, thoughtful forums I've ever seen, with deeper, objective analysis of things than I've encountered basically anywhere else. But Battlefield 3 set fire to the place, turning the forums into a deluge of anger, hatred, and mocking of DICE and their BS marketing about "returning to PC in a big way", and so on. And rather than own-up to the fact that they screwed-up and sold-out with Battlefield 3, and try to make amends, DICE instead erased and shut-down the forums, maybe to hide the PR disaster.

On the forums, Noshahr Canals was derisively referred to as "nosehair canals", due to how tiny a map it is. And Battlefield 3 was called "Closetfield 3", and other similar things, also to mock the small sizes of its maps.

People mocked DICE's outrageous claim of Battlefield 3 having the series' largest maps by saying "The largest maps in Battlefield history, with the smallest playable area in Battlefield's history" - referring to DICE's snake-oil claim counting the background terrain that can't actually be played in. And there were many threads analysing the travel distance in virtual metres or whatever of the playable areas in Battlefield 3 maps, compared to Battlefield 2 and 1942's maps, confirming DICE was BSing.

Patrick Bach complained on the forums about all the criticism of the poor-quality maps, and made the appeal that the DICE team had spent their summer making maps for those players. But the forum members didn't accept that excuse. And nothing about Battlefield 3's maps is all that appreciable. Battlefield 3 truly does have perhaps the worst, most uninspired and plain, and most boring maps in any main-series Battlefield game (though, Battlefield 6's look like they might compete in that category).

When Patrick Bach tried to push back against the criticism, and said he thinks that DICE "nailed it" with Battlefield 3, people mocked him as meaning that DICE had nailed Battlefield's coffin.

Battlefield 3 was a total sell-out game, and one of the lowest points in the Battlefield series. But it gets undeservedly hyped by the millions upon millions of people who started playing Battlefield with Battlefield 3, or Bad Company 2, and who bought into the hype themselves, and mistakenly assumed that they were playing something new and revolutionary, instead of a sorely cut-down, gutted, and dumbed-down beyond measure take on Battlefield aimed at the then console-market's ultra-casual audience.

Despite all the complaints and criticisms people make about Bf5 or Bf2042, and now Bf6, I don't think there's ever been as massive a downgrade from one game to the next as there was from Battlefield 2 to Battlefield 3. Battlefield 3 is when Battlefield really died.
