But your ladder paragraph is exactly the reason why OP said they aren't "the future". The censorship laws and government pressure is ultimately their Achilles heel. In the west, corporations like Blackrock(eww) and governments like Canada incentivized game devs to push lgbt bullcrap in their the games. But because no one actually likes that sh*t, the free market is in the process of correcting for that. It will take time, sure, and we can enjoy eastern games meanwhile. But the Chinese government is realizing how popular their games are in the west and is trying to use their newly found soft power to influence western gamers. This is essentially DEI and Lgbt part II, just now not incentivized, but enforced by the CCP. I think the Chinese censorship will be tolerated until their games remain good, but once western games become decent again, the CCP censorship will be stain similar to Lgbt/DEI.

But compare to the censorship of Western games now face, Chinese games' censorship are still lesser evil, because Chinese developers usually won't censor their games unless they're really forced by CCP or laws, whereas Western games can be censored just by the pressure of usual woke mobs (ordinary consumers and activists) or woke corporations, won't even need any legal requirement and governmental power to do that, I don't see "the free market" is correcting that too much because the ones who pushing the L**TDEI+ censorship are not aiming for the profits in the first place, they won't stop nor change just because they lost money and popularity. The most recent case is Mastercard / Visa credit cards try to enforce censorship on video games by their payment process.

CCP always has censorship on video games and many things, nothing new, it's already like that long before the L**TDEI+ infested Western countries, everyone already knows that, Chinese people also dislike censorship, not just you Westerners, but Chinese censorship ironically also censor things that many Chinese and Western gamers hate such as L**TDEI+ contents, you will never see something like Yasuke and his BLACKED Ass*creed happens on Chinese games. This is not just about soft power and influences or games quality, it's we Chinese absolutely HATE the Western L**TDEI+ nonsense.
Your point about Chinese developers not censoring unless forced by the government was ironically enough disproven by the developers of the game under which's discussion page we are currently talking. A tiny bit of fan-service to western audiences that was the prayer emote got removed because of censorship karen outcry.

And personally, I stand with you on which of the two types of agenda driven, artistic vision rotting vehicles of censorship is more off-putting. I despise what has been done to western storytelling and artistic expression by the corporate funded far-left agenda. Meanwhile, I still play and appreciate games made in China, I love being able to experience Chinese culture through video games, even with the constant tug of war of petty censorship that the government there perpetuates. It's just that I also fear it will get worse. The CCP wants to curate the image of China, and the nationalist who fight their battles on the internet make it that much easier.
