and back then I would have been using tanks only from Tier 4 to Tier 7.

despite the claimed randomness, both teams in EVERY battle I recorded the data for somehow also managed to have players that represented a fairly even spread of the personal WN8 stat from dark red up to dark purple

I'm also working on a video about WOT. My issue is that you used Tier 4 to 6 as samples. For example, I played 111 battles with the Chi-Nu (Tier 5, Japan, f*ck this tank).

111 battles x 29 players = 3219 players (not counting myself). Of those 3219 players, 278 (8.6%!) were rerolls (3000+ WN8) with fewer than 250 battles. In short, it is not surprising to see at least one unicum per team at this Tier. You are most likely to meet unicums at Tier 5 than at Tier 10.

the fact remains that something else clearly appeared to be going on in the background that was influencing team structure beyond WG's simple claim of 'randomness'.

Tiers have a non-negligible influence on the WN8 and players' skill. At Tier 5 (I removed the 278 rerolls), 91.3% had a WN8 lower than 1600, compared to 80.8% at Tier 8 and 73.2% at Tier 10.

battles that were very short-duration and/or hugely one-sided blowouts, was that each battle result was more often than not being dictated not so much by players personal stats or WN8

Interesting. From the numbers that I have (based on 3402 battles), the average WN8 does play a huge role in blowouts (battles ending in 15-5 or lower). On average, the winning team in a battle ending in 15-5 or lower has a WN8 13% (+147) higher compared to 7% (+89) for battles ending between 15-6 to 15-10. Battles ending in 15-11 to 15-14 only saw a mere 2% (+29) gap.

However despite this both sets of data were still somewhat sufficient to demonstrate, at least personally, that my own matchmaking experience actually had been working to some kind of a fairly consistent pattern that was similar to that being claimed by others in the community at that time, namely a set of X number of battles as bottom or middle tier followed by 1 or maybe 2 battles as top tier (if I was lucky) only for the whole cycle to repeat itself again, and again, and regardless of which class and tier of tank was used

Could the server population and the hours you played influence it? I play on the NA server, and 61.7% of my battles with my Tier 9 were against Tier 10. The average on the NA server is 37%.
