Production capacity always trumps whatever "super tech" any military can field, other than the "I win button" (MADD). A single mech that is versatile and powerful but takes 5 months to produce will never win a war against a larger population able to field "standard" armor columns it can spit out in 3 weeks at a 100:1 ratio.

That depends on the scale and what you actually compare. If you look at a certain current conflict, yes, cheap drones taking out expensive tanks is an issue and this part supports your claim. At the same time, though, the agressor of this certain conflict has more troops and production power but was unable to drown the defender with sheer numbers, both in man-power and armoured vehicles. The defender has the better equipment and tech. Of course there are a lot more factors like corruption and disorganization of the attacker, however, this is in turn partly due to said mass production and realiance on sheer numbers. The defender of this conflict uses it's superior tech to conserve manpower and other pricy tech and infrastructure whereas the attacker always has to start from scratch when fielding new platoons. In game-terms: The defender is able to gain XP and level up while the attacker always has to start all over with lvl 1 creeps.

So, both can be true at the same time. In WWII, germans lost to rus despite tech advantage due to numbers. But in the british colonial wars the Zulus and their allies lost to due to lack of tech. And I think you can find dozens of examples for both outcomes

Nope, it currently takes into account your active level of stuff you have equipped. Think of it like your highest possible power is 100% rating and every power level you're under that lowers your reward rating. Why does it work like that? Only the insane bungie management can answer that but it is being changed to only use your max account level.

Your friend could also be hurt guardian rank if you haven't kept up with that.
