About Sensei's Gender (NOT BAIT, THIS IS SERIOUS)

Opprinnelig skrevet av This PC:

I mentioned the author's intent within the context of the game.

You're thinking too hard about this, nothing serious points to it.
The whole game points to sensei being undefined. :P
This is what grinds me about this topic and makes me feel people are insecure, Sensei is undefined for the whole game, but suddenly, because cookies, "ah-ha! I'm right, Sensei is male".

But the author told you Sensei is undefined for what... 5 years now ? :P

This is essentially what I'm saying lol, the author isn't perfect, so sure, maybe there will be times where something might make you lean a certain way, but the intent is clear, like you said, they want to leave it undefined.

Then why are you even feeling compelled to answer ? :P
What did you add really ? All you're looking for is to be judgemental with me, are you really in a position to judge me ? You haven't added anything here, you essentially agree with me, and yes, I'd say that if people care so much about this topic, there's a level of insecurity here. :P

Putting aside the context "within" the game, the author is making decisions at various stages about what gets put in and what fails to get in the game. I never once saw a quote "within" the game that would otherwise say the author wants you to self-insert or that the protag is undefined when it comes to gender. So i'm going to take a guess and assume you must be referencing some quote on the author's social media. If not, can you please provide a source?

If a chapter introducing new characters and story content isn't "serious" and we aren't supposed to gleam any information from it, then what does that say about all works of fiction and their continuity/immersion? Also you said "makes me feel people are insecure" which is just you telling us your interpretation of anybody having a discussion. Are you saying we can't have any kind of discourse where we think critically and examine aspects or details and share what perspective/angle we are looking at that information? That is kinda why people talk with each other. Especially about stuff they like and want to share. It is fun to discuss things and outside of college, it gives people a chance to flex their skills in psychology and sociology. In fact, a person doesn't even need to articulate their thoughts perfectly or use fancy jargon to talk, it is still fun to share.

Also me and you are making two different points and i'm not agreeing with you. I'm presenting the notion that sensei is a male and it would make more sense from a narrative stance. I also saw no quote from the author within the game or anything that would otherwise indicate they want us to self insert because they gave sensei a personality and an outline of how to conduct themselves with the students. Other than the fact that sensei doesn't make an appearance, i'd like to know where you are getting the interpretation that they are undefined gender. Please share.

As i've said in the other paragraph, i felt compelled to answer just to throw in my 2 cents and chit chat randomly with strangers on the internet since i was bored yesterday and was on the forums. It is fun sometimes. Also i'm not judging you, i'm just following what i was taught in speech class when it comes to persuading people. Make a point (or few), let your opponent make theirs, attempt to refute as many points as possible or make the opponent contradict themselves, and then presto, you won the debate if you had less of your points refuted (or convinced more people you are more logical/rational). I'm not making anything personal but you did by saying something along the lines of "people are insecure" which my teacher taught me "if you opponent is trying to slander you, that means they are trying to discredit you since they realize you are in the lead and the only way to turn things around is to get people to question their intent/motive which will lead to them losing the debate/presentation when nobody votes for them". By doing that, you attacked every single person who came in here to have a discussion and throw in their 2 cents by calling into question their motive/intent for their belief on sensei's gender so you could subsequently have an easier time picking apart their presentation. In psychology i think that is called the "straw-man" tactic of arguing. (you throw up for your opponent a point that you can easily refute or disassemble to persuade others you are correct even though that isn't their stance/point) --(i may have gotten the definition of that word wrong since it's been a while since i've seen it and even more of a while, since i've seen it deployed)--
