Sorry Utah if I sounded a bit harsh. wasn't intentional, and not directed at you. It is just a pet peeve of mine over all my years of gaming that games allow the players to dictate to them how the game should be. One of the reasons I love bethesda so much is they make the game they want to make and Players be D---ed. Makes for a better game without nerfs. My opinion is the game developer should stay true to their concept and if the players like it they will purchase it, if not then fine no one made them buy it. Where the developers Should listen is in regards to bugs/glitche fixes. and only that. Design choices should Never be left to the ignorant whims of a player base.
Don't worry Veer, I didn't think your statement was directed at me. And if my response sounded that way I'm sorry :). And yeah, I do get what you mean by allowing a developer to stick with the initial vision of the game they made. And I think you're right. Truth is, if there were no new features ever added to Starfield, I still would have had a blast. But I also think that we unfortunately don't live in that world anymore. Game devs are getting very used to allowing the direction of their games to follow the desires of the player base. And I admit, that at least in some ways, I might be contributing to that problem.

But, in regards to planet to planet travel, Kdodds is right, it was always possible, just not very accessible. So I kind of look at this news as improving a feature that was already in game. And who knows what kind of cool and crazy mods might stem from this?
It won't really become a viable/usable feature unless non-grav speeds increase substantially. And at that point, you won't be able to react quickly enough to avoid collisions anyway, so it would need to include automated object avoidance. I think the hope for those who wanted this probably revolves around random space encounters. Otherwise, there's no real reason to not use fast travel. Roleplaying is all fine and well and good. But if it take me even 10 minutes of staring at black to get from A to B it's pointless, worthless, and counter to all of the "loading screen" complaints. Further, space is big, really big, mindboggling big (points for those who get that). The chance of a random encounter occurring are infinitesimally small. That's a whole lot of boring nothing to look at for the odd, 1 in a trillion chance that you might meet up with spacers in the interstellar space between Sol and Alpha Proxima. Orbiting bodies, far more likely random encounters, but we already have that.

There must be another reason for this, unrelated to some people's desires for unreasoned interplanetary, non-grav flight. I'm guessing a precursor to reimplementing fuel as a survival mechanic.
