You're right. DE got more love than they actually deserved, considering the quality of the game back when I started playing it. There were no open locations and all that stuff, just corridors and farming without a clear plot and yet, I was on their side. Waited for years for every update and rooted for their project. shots are aimed at a specific tile on a ship, generally favouring the most expensive ship, or otherwise whichever enemy you ordered the ship to target

they have a travel time before impact so often misses happen more so because of enemy movement than accuracy issues, though both play a large factor

non-AoE weapons will only do damage to the tile they hit; doing damage to armour first (minus the resistance to the damage type of the projectile the armour offers), and only after doing actually meaningful module damage; AoE weapons can hit multiple tiles; there is damage falloff from the point of impact, so depending on where it hits on a given tile you could do more or less damage to nearby tiles

ramming entirely ignores armour resistances and HP and directly deal damage to the module hit, with how much each sides deals and receives depending on the hardness of the module that hit (a hidden stat in the files, but basically rams have the highest hardness value, which varies from ram to ram, and some non-ram modules have a bit of hardness like spikes and covered decks; most other modules don't have any noticeable hardness and tend to break quickly

Since FPV games are about getting better at FPV flying, it would be both educational and potentially also fun if the player would have to arm the drone and manually take off when starting a mission, and at the end land manually and disarm.
