I've heard that this could be grounds for legal liability since it would be an acknowledgement of the very vulnerability you just mentioned. Neither of us know what was written in the actors contract for this appearance.

Whoever told you that is either a liar, or a complete imbecile and you should disregard anything they say going forward on the matter.

I am not a lawyer, HOWEVER, by professional necessity (computer software engineer and vendor) I have been required to learn the laws on the legality of things like "Line of Demarcation of Service", which is where any sort of proactive hacking criminal law applies, and where legal liabilities between end-user and service provider* begin (*or vendor, in my case).

Without getting into the dry legalese, the simplest way I can put it is this: Unless Otzdarva himself was conducting the hack (literally, like some saturday morning cartoon villain) there was zero possible criminal/legal liability on his part. Or anyone else on that stream for that matter.

How do I know this? Simple: The stream was held on the exact same official servers everyone normally plays on. These are the same servers that Otzdarva and his community use for running their own DBD tournaments, which is the same place and means by which they've encountered the hacker problem and how Otz knew exactly how to solve it.

Since none of those actions violates Behaviour's EULA/TOS or is a criminal violation in the US or Canada, there was literally no legal liability for attempting such a solution.

I don't even want to entertain what would be required to prosecute an international criminal case in the hypothetical scenario where Otzdarva was in fact some cartoonishly brazen and stupid hacker doing his nyah-ha-haaah moment, , but it could not possibly be worth the tiny damages this little PR stunt cost Behaviour to do in the first place.
