Since nobody else has said anything definitive, I'll throw a tentative hat in the ring.
I frankly don't recall clearly, so this is not going to be as clear as my usual advice.

When a mob makes its saving throw against a spell you cast, you will see a blue hexagon above its head briefly.

Iirc, when a mob resists a spell using spell resistance, there's instead a blue dome-like shield that flashes above their head.

That said, aside from looking in your combat log (usually post-battle), there's also die-roll UI element. Make sure it's visible. If not, it could be hiding behind other UI elements.
Everything you do tends to involve die rolls. If you watch the die and the messages associated, you can learn a lot. I believe a message will briefly hover somewhere that says, "Resisted"

That's all I have atm. If I get a chance to take one of my CC toons out for a spin, I'll observe and see if I missed anything or remembered anything incorrectly. In the mean time, I hope this helps.

Oh I forgot about the dice roll thing, thanks for reminding me. I play at a high resolution and I can barely see that stuff lol. I’ll look for it next time I play.

Also yeah I’ve seen the blue things over NPCs heads but it happens so fast and it’s hard to see in combat sometimes. I’ll go into a wilderness map next time I’m on and test mobs one at a time to see if I can identify which blue thing it is.
