I recently bought the game! It's awesome. I hope it will continue to develop. It has potential.

Personally, I'm starting to use the Real Nvigation mod combined with the No Spoilers mod. They work well together:
No contact display, no "help" or markings on the map, or automatic interception routes. You have to do everything by sight and/or with the hydrophone.

The "No Spoilers" mod prevents you from pausing while using the periscope or UZO.

The great thing for me is that to know your exact position, you have to use the sextant, and this allows me to avoid moving from one point to another on the map constantly using time compression. I wait for dusk, midday, and moonrise to make astronomical observations. I also enjoy the charm of the sea and moments of calm and quiet.

Other interesting mods that complete the experience are "Projekt Bifröst: Eistla" which gives you the sunrise and sunset times (perfect for organizing observations with the sextant) and a wonderful Hygrometer that I often consult to understand the weather trend... if storms, rain, etc. are on the way... very important for using the sextant.
