The Silent Hill series has always been pipes and puzzles.
I think one thing that's missing from this, or at least not as present, as in the original series, is that, in the original series, every 'screen' was intentionally designed. That is, when you're exploring all of these spaces, there would be varied camera angles, not just drawing attention to something, but setting the scene.

Due to the camera now being over the shoulder, despite the environment being expertly crafted, it doesn't have that director's vision sort of experience you got in the old games, making every moment feel samey.

I think this is quite good, though I wonder that if people aren't finishing it, it's because it's extremely stressful and scary, haha, even on the normal combat setting.

But, I would advise Normal combat setting and hard puzzle settings. Might make for a more interesting play through. I usually put games on hard when looking for a challenging, but fair experience, but for this one, I found the combat too punishing and frequent, so turned it down to normal.

You may always want to play in shorter sessions. Sometimes it can feel like a lot, not necessarily in a bad way, but it's exhausting for sure.

Again, as I said in the post, it's not about the combat being hard, it's not. It's boring and easy. It's the same enemies and the same attack patterns.

The puzzles aren't hard either which is fine, they're just padded out for the sake of being padded out. They don't add to the story.

My entire problem with the game is I want to experience the STORY, less just walking around listening to James grunt and moan and groan when looking at stuff.

In games like Resident Evil, the combat is engaging, the environments are constantly changing and the puzzles aren't as long. The enemies in the RE games have variety as well as are actually scary. They can and will kill you quickly if you're not careful.

In SH2 you have i-frames like it's Elden Ring so you can literally just dodge INTO attacks and INTO the monster and then just start hitting it. I beat Flesh Lips with a metal pipe after dropping him to the ground and didn't get hit once. Just keep dodging into him.

The i-frame times are WAY too long for this game to be "scary".

But my main issue is just the padded gameplay length. The game is great for a while, but overstays it's welcome. The point of playing the SH games is for the story, so taking breaks and then coming back to the game doesn't even make sense. It's supposed to be an emotional experience regarding a man and his internal struggles blah blah blah. The first one and the original second one had that. This one doesn't. It does if you just watch a youtube video of the cutscenes.
