Do you have a question for the developers?

Yes. I have two problems..

1.) In battle I will twist the enemy lines and severely out flank the them. When I do this the AI tries to make corrections even though all is lost.. Then when it can't the game crashes.
I have played almost 1000 hours. This only recently started happening..

2.) An enemy corps will invade my territory, I will surround them, and defeat them.. When they retreat after battle they do not go back to their own city or fort to recover.

They go deeper into my territory, take one of my towns while they are supposed to be withdrawing and recover there.

A defeated enemy army just wintered well behind my Lines. Actually advanced north while "withdrawing". Instead of starving in the snow on the way back to their lines after being defeated 3 times.

WTF..!?

Played nearly 1000 hours. I know this should not happen.

Here is a reply to your question, from the developers:

Nothing has changed in the game for a long time. Are any mods being used?

If something silly that should not happen starts to happen, it could be there has been an exception in the background. This means something has not worked correctly due to any reason, and the game engine “goes desync." This can happen without the game crashing. When it happens and the game continues, erroneous activity can take place. These cases can reveal themselves in the player.log -file.

The bad thing is that such exceptions can be caught for bug fixing only if they reproduce in the development environment. Along the years there have been a few such cases that a player has reported, but the issue could not be reproduced again. Luckily these are very rare. The good thing is that 99% of the time exiting the game and continuing from a save fixes such issues. Most if not all the issues that happen like this are not part of the save files, and restarting the game removes any sync issues.
