I'm really confused here guys.
1) Yeah, MP Timberborn IS actually wildly fun. I don't know why every time I say that it's met with someone trying (in novella this time) to tell me it isn't fun when they could play it themselves and see it works great. Then they argue the technical difficulty like a couple modders didn't figure it out in their free time. So you're saying the modders could get it to work but the devs of the actual game are too stupid?? (Compare that to EleventhStar's suggestion to not allow auto updates which is actually relevant to the post and a great idea.) But....
2) It is also true I haven't played Timberborn in a long time because it doesn't have MP and I prefer games that do. if they add it, I (and friends) will be back.
So these two things are true... HOWEVER, and this is CRITICAL
3) The actual question in this post was essentially "Since they aren't planning to add it, what games are like this but with MP?"

Note the actual question. This isn't actually a post about why Timberborn needs to add multiplayer, it's a post asking what other game to play. Hilariously the novella author says that I should be playing a different game and that's literally what I'm asking for. Yup. I wish it was TB, but since it is not, which game?

It's like if I was a vegetarian and said "Arby's doesn't have enough vegetarian food for me, what's a restaurant with good curly fries and more vegetarian options?" And then there's some rando who just writes a novel like "WHY DOES EVERY RESTAURANT NEED VEGETARIAN FOOD!" And, like... they don't? But I won't be eating there, so any other leads? And then this guy goes off like "WAHHHH THEY RUIN EVERYTHING!" And like, fine, but any leads on a good restaurant? Best I've had so far is Craft the World.

Think less about preset comps and more about desired elements. That way, you'll be able to blend what works with elements you prefer or enjoy.

Many fantastic teams abuse speed, accuracy, and often stun, while any great (slow) teams will have planned for the detriments that slowness brings to the table.

Most (if not all) teams want "projection" - the art of hitting what you want, when you want - particularly to hit R4/R3, as there's nothing worse than top-priority stress-nukers living rent-free outside of your reach and sending heroes into insanity while you're tickling some high-PROT meatsack near the front.

Similar can be said of mobility and flexibility - the art of repositioning (or playing from multiple different positions) without being crippled by shuffles, surprises, or displacement.

Most teams love sustain, be it health or stress management - and teams that are good at this can consistently leave dungeons with max-health and 0-stress, with some even cleansing disease along the way. Mixed with good quirk-curio knowledge, you can fish for more positive quirks via healthy successes, save gold by not needing Hamlet respite facilities, and keep heroes clean during profitable dungeon jaunts.

The opposite perspective:
Teams that are slow, miss a lot, can't hit priorities, aren't good at sustaining themselves, inflexible (or undone by shuffles, surprises, or movement), can easily be blown up or ravaged by afflictions until you flee (or get sent home in a body-bag), and as a result, cost a lot more gold.

If bossing, learn their gimmicks - as once you know how they work, it's very easy to form counter-squads that abuse said gimmicks. The same can be said about zones or trash mobs. Some heroes excel in X place or vs Y boss compared to others, so the more you know, the easier it is the plan.

While sponging info, simply place four heroes in the Embark screen and check how much of the above elements they have combined.

Are they slow? Are they inaccurate? Do they have any form of sustain? Can they stun? Can they reach? Will they fall into chaos if anyone moves? Do they fit the zone, boss, or specific challenge ahead? Etc.

There are so many potential compositions it's not even funny, and the game is easy enough (when you know how it works) for almost anything to work if you really, really, really want it to. Sure, you could follow a guide or stick to teams being handed out to you, or whatever Joe Soap calls their favourite, but I would argue that the real fun stems from piecing teams together yourself and dragging them kicking & screaming to success.
