Lets say someone comes from TQ1 and plays TQ2.
TQ1 allows you to often just stand in front of bosses, facetank their damage and quaff a few healing poitions if you got a defensive build.

You only have to watch out for a few big telegraphed attacks that you can avoid by normal movement, and not stay in any fire or acid pools.

TQ2 lets you play exactly the same way.
Right until you get to the Gryphon.

Here, you will just die if you do that.
You need to smartly use dodge as well as your barrier and healing potion.

You probably played a few more modern ARPG with similar systems, which taught you the skills to deal with the Gryphon.
Some other people might not have done that and get flattened by it without knowing why the things that were working before suddenly no longer do.

Most ARPG are designed around you just tanking hits, thats practically the entire genre for melee players. Dodge normally exists as a skill in these games (which I hate) and its not complicated to understand when to use it if you have it. And same goes for anything else for that matter, read the options the game gives you and use em.

Oh ♥♥♥♥ I'm getting smacked in the head, oh I got dodge, let me use that to move out the way.

Oh ♥♥♥♥ I'm getting smacked in the head, oh I got shield barrier, let me use that to not take hp damage for a little bit.

Oh ♥♥♥♥ I'm getting smacked in the head, oh I got health potion, let me use that when my hp is low.

If you weren't interacting with these 3 basic systems since the start of the game before you even saw the boss then that's a you problem. Do people just not interact with anything the game is presenting to u? There are even tutorial boxes, even I use tutorials for games even if I already know the basics+.

From what I've played of this game the only "smart play" you have to do in this game is take out specific types of enemies first. Idk maybe another "smart play" would be when you see a green cone or circle then move the f out the way... Uhh, when a effect on the ground is damaging you then move the f out the way...

This sound more like a, needing a gaming coach moment if these are the problems people are having, being just basic game mechanics that were being taught or shown to you at the start of the game.

Yeah, the basic game mechanics that were shown to you at the start of the game.
And that haven't been actually required until then.

You didn't need to dodge unit the Gryphon fight.
You didn't need the barrier.

You could use them, but there was no real incentive to do so.
No elite with a big damaging attack that forces you to dodge.
No enemy with damage reflection that incentivices you to use your barrier.

You could just go through the whole game up to this point only using the occasional health potion.

"Hey, remember those tutorial slides I showed you at the very start of the game? About 1 to 2 hours ago? That you didn't need to use until now? Pop quizz time!!"
