Yeah, the ending is HIGHLY divisive. Your opinion on it will depend on character development of a certain key character. Many claim it's trash; personally, I found it acceptable and pretty well explained.

Even as a child I understood that the Ajora history part of the plot was roughly inspired by the story of The Passion, but that Ajora themself was not Jesus, but a false prophet.
And back then I was aware of the fact that the game was highly critiquing hierarchies rather than taking jabs at any religion.
That the high priest was in on it doesn't mean religion itself is bad, just that even people in the church are not immune to corruption and intrigue. Even he was being manipulated by the lucavi.

I would agree except there's plenty of evidence they rushed the release. Similar to the 4th age that's clearly missing. The only reason they waited on Britain was because having it as a Day 1 DLC release would have caused even more negativity. Britain was available to play by testers well in advance of the release, with no changes and they even released it as-is with a unique unit that was a re-skin.

They exactly stated the reason why Great Britain was not released in the base game in one of the livestream.
