Then we get 3 months of people complaining about it being removed and how its made the game so difficult.....

Generally agree with the above.
More power output to make the power-per-tile more competitive with alternatives.
More expensive fuel to compensate for the output and convenience.

And just a personal nitpick/preference, but an odd size (3x3 or 5x5) would be nice.

I think it will end up the same as Starbase. Players will drop to triple digits. All development will stop except for bug fixes. The game will slowly disappear into oblivion. Going by the abysmal launch numbers, I'm not sure it will last a month.
