I believe he has said he's not planning on getting onto consoles until the game is complete; it would be awesome for it to be available for more people, but I think that option is a long ways away unfortunately

TL;DR
Game doesn't run well on some systems with new update , people dislike Paradox Games, AI does NOT use DLC except for Fallen Empires [precursor empires that generally leave everyone else alone] and even then that lets you access said DLC content for free if you can get a big enough fleet to take it for yourself. Some people find game too complicated [although I personally would consider it one of the simpler 4X games out there]. The DLC is not needed to enjoy the game at all. There are several people can't imagine playing without but actually don't change the game that much [i.e Galactic Paragons, which I have no interest in buying] and if you DO choose to buy DLC they massively improve the game.
