It's not just the OG fandom that will complain it's anyone that knows marvel will and I don't blame them. At the end of the day the kits should match the character. I saw people complain about rocket being a strategist(this is why I think they chose this name instead of support/healer) as he is know for carrying big guns etc. the counter point I give to that is rocket is a genius and tactical It would not be out of character for him to support or work on a solution for the team. I feel this is within reason of the character. However unlike your cyclops example of course people are going to be mad about him being a strategist or a tank as that is not his forte. Plus the fact that we have plenty of heroes and villians that can fill the roles to which is what would make even more people mad.

As of the stuff with phoenix I mean I was kinda of expecting her to work like emma or C&D due to leaks. However when jean has been phoenix it seems she leans more into those powers then her psychic powers. So I get why they went that route. As well as I can see why they went vanguard with emma. But like I pointed out There is plenty to pick from unless they are just trying to get out super popular characters no matter where they put them.
When I look up the line up for End Game, with that huge of roster how many of those really fit into support role without getting rocket treatment or Ultron way? Not really that much actually.
People come for the charatcer but stay for gameplay. I will accept if the next character is OC support rather than another DPS. If they release support/tank character from the comic, Great, amazing. I Just don't want to see another new DPS character for the 2 season.

Why use the movies alone for a basis? Those are action movies and they try to keep them exciting. I gave a list of characters above that would literally need no tweaks to make then viable. Even then as stated rocket is still rather valid for this given his nature as is how they did ultron(granted he is more DPS then strategist). I mean everyone has to face the fact that they are going to keep releasing DPS characters as that is the bulk of the players. It's only fair they see new characters as well However yes we need more vanguard and strategist. But again the point is there is plenty to pull from that don't need to be bent to work and I think that more then validates not needing original characters. I mean if they can't find them hell they can hire me I am retired and I won't mind.
