For example, if the ban resulted from phone number sharing, that would be involving a totally different account.
AND, the account does not even have to own the game that ban applies to, in order for the ban to be shared if phone number sharing was the cause.
So people really don't seem to understand how many ways an account can earn a VAC ban.
Simply saying "I did not cheat", is not even close to covering all the ways it can happen.
VAC does not care who was using the account if it earns a VAC ban. That is also in the information that you have been provided. Please, read all that now, if you have not yet.
I just explained how there is at least one way an account can earn a VAC ban where "YOU" don't have to be the one that did the cheating.
AND, there are other ways, too.
EDIT.............................
No, you experienced an error, not a ban.
Commonly seen mistake.
THIS is not a ban message and if you had this, your account WAS NOT VAC banned at that time :

Yes, the account is only banned on secure servers for that game. There are specific exceptions :
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7849-RADZ-6869&l=english#insecure
If I'm VAC banned can I play on insecure servers?
Yes, if the game offers insecure servers.
Some VAC protected games allow servers that are not protected by VAC. Users that are VAC banned are still able to play on insecure servers for the game they are VAC banned in. Please note that not all games have insecure servers.

What games can I play if I have been VAC banned?
VAC banned accounts can still play single-player games, local LAN games, and multiplayer on non VAC-secured game servers. To find non VAC-secured servers, from the Steam main menu click on View, select Servers, then select Not secure in the Anti-cheat dropdown.
Cheating in one of the following Source games or a Source mod will result in a VAC ban for all games in the list below:
Counter-Strike: Source
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Day of Defeat: Source
Team Fortress 2
Similarly, cheating in one of the following Gold Source games will result in a VAC ban for all games in the list below:
Counter-Strike
Condition Zero
Ricochet
Day of Defeat
Team Fortress Classic
Half-Life: Deathmatch
Deathmatch Classic
Team Fortress 2
Counter-Strike: Source
Day of Defeat: Source
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Half-Life Deathmatch: Source
also yeah i sorta found something.. its that team fortress 2 was the one that got me the ban and i can only assume some of the community servers had illegal plugins, which they do since some of the servers have descriptions PLUGIN MADE BY XXXXXXX
1. AGAIN, I already told you that "YOU" don't have to be the one that cheated.
2. VAC does not say anything of the sort. What VAC is 'saying' is that THIS ACCOUNT is banned due to a cheating infraction or being involved in a cheating infraction, or linked to an account that was.
3. You refuse to read everything that covers any of the questions you ask, and the answers that we provided. EVERYTHING you have asked and that we have answered is covered from the pinned thread and "info" button next to the red text on your profile.
HOSTING a server that has illegal modifications (cheats) can cause your account to be VAC banned.
JOINING servers that have illegal modifications (cheats) will NOT cause your account to be VAC banned.
VAC says that THE ACCOUNT cheated. Does it matter who it was? NO. It could have been you or someone else. It simply does not matter. If it was someone else, you are still responsible, because you are responsible for the security of your account and any activity on the account. Even someone cheating on it. EVERY SINGLE THING that you have asked in this thread has an answer. However, YOU have to read it.
