I'd assume if you were able to find a way to do that a VAC ban would be the least of your worries.

So, don't.

If the files are untouched, you should be fine. The only point of concern might be, that matchmaking and other stuff won't work correctly in a outdated build.

An outdated build cannot be used by official anything - "aka" downloading a pirated outdated version of a game. So as Chaos suggests:

Don't.

Why would you even want to do this, even if it was possible and/or a good idea, which it sounds like it is neither of.

Just get the regular game and play it and don't mess with the files. Also, don't use stuff unless it is from a totally trusted source, and even then, it is often not worth the risk. That's a good way to possibly get your account VAC banned.

Covered here :

Thing is with people asking these types of question about what will cause a VAC ban, when one seeks to find limits, they often get what they wish for. :steamhappy:

There is a Zero-Tolerance policy for any violations of the Steam Subscriber Agreement and Online Code of Conduct. All accounts in a user's possession for any of the following activities will be suspended:

Piracy or Hacking
This includes using an unauthorized ("hacked") Steam client to access Steam, attempting to register fake CD Keys or attempting to register a CD Key which has been published on the internet.

Its used to access and play with old bugs in the game that were fixed. I miss some of them and you can easily find the depots online.

And that is where the big question mark is, at least for me.

How do you know that "download" does not have malicious code hidden within it that will cause a VAC ban on purpose ?

How do you trust it ? Don't link the source here, please.

EDIT..I had a look around, and while this is a bit older, I don't like the sound of this and any possible issues that might exist now :

What you do is up to you. Normally, this might not be an issue, but you have to also consider the multiplayer compatibility of older versions (or the lack thereof) and newer versions of multiplayer games.

You all got it wrong i think OP just wants to download the "demo-viewer 2013" build which is basically an older csgo that you can play offline or on LAN.
If you're going to do that OP,no it won't get you banned and therefore best you can get is a VAC kick if you try to modify the game.
And you can download it through Steam.
Here's the instructions on how to download it through Steam: https://www.hltv.org/forums/threads/861438/we-can-now-play-the-2013-version-of-csgo-thanks-to-valve

Did anybody read what OP posted? It's not about downloading from "somewhere", it's about downloading using SteamCMD or console, from Steam, jeebus.

There is also this:

If you get clean files from Steam, i don't think there is an issue with VAC.

Well you download it from the steam console.

Yes, the files from Steam should be fine, but it's this, for example that I would be concerned with, and it's on github.

I downloaded it and everything "looks" ok, but I should have been more clear about what I was talking about above. Sorry about that. I have done this before, using the Steam client only and no other files, and for only a non-VAC game. It works fine and it is ok to do so, as others here have also stated, but any sources like this on github was what I was concerned with.

Look, to be honest, CSGO isn't even an old game, yet...there is no nostalgia. I mean, I could see the point if you were trying to play one of the original CS betas that didn't even use Steam....but, this? Risking your account and your PC to play a buggy version of CS:GO? No. I pre-ordered the game and played the beta. You're not missing anything ....certainly not anything worth risking your account or PC over.

There are reasons why the bugs were removed.

Gonna guess "but I want to be uuuubberrrrrr!!!!!!111!one!" is among the reasons to 'want' this.

Go play garry's mod instead.
xamtastic Jul 6, 2023 @ 9:40am
It's perfectly OK. You can download an old CS:GO depot but make sure to have -insecure in your launch options or you will almost certainly be vac banned by valve's stupid system. I use a 2017 client for scaleform all the time it works fine and I haven't been banned, just remember to use the launch option
Why did You bump this?
