If you play only in insecure servers, you won't get banned. However, if you then connect to a VAC secured server with the cheats still on your system, you may be banned, even if you are not actively using them.

To add to this, playing offline with bots is still VAC secured, so don’t cheat on offline mode. Pro tip: the only way you can truly be safe from a VAC ban is joining insecure servers using an account with an existing VAC ban. You never know what can happen.

if any trace of the cheat remains on the computer, ANY account entering a VAC secure server later would be at risk...

And if that account is linked by phone number to another account and VAC bans any of the accounts for a cheating infraction, then all accounts using that phone number will get banned also.

Even if they don't own the game that ban is for.

You should also reset your system after using cheats on your insecure server.
