Fake VAC Ban Warnings
I'm sure many of you have noticed that there have been several cases of people's profiles being edited to show a fake VAC warning. Their profile pictures are being changed to show a VAC logo (usually red) and their profile descriptions are being changed to say that a VAC ban will be applied soon and that items should be traded to another account before they become locked.

Obviously this is a scam. VAC does not give people warnings. These fake warnings are obviously attempts to scam the user out of their items.

I think it would be helpful to the community for Valve to issue some kind of official statement to alert users to this new scam, and on how this is happening. What is the mechanism that the scammers are using to gain access to the victim's profiles? Is it a program infecting their PC? Is it a phishing site?

If you have any information about this or any comment about it that you think might be helpful, please post it here.

Thank you, I have just done the remaining steps.

I looked at the recent login history and found the malicious login:

Did you see the computer name too?

:qr:
Yes, but I am not sure if the list of devices is in a specific chronological order.. there doesn't seem to be anything suspicious there apart from 'User-Komputer' at the bottom of the list but that may have been me a very long time ago.

We already have a setting to "Allow destop Web browsers to automatically log into Steam sites" in our settings to help prevent the phishing.

where is that located?
5) The original trade gets cancelled and then a bot disguises himself as the exact name and picture as the receiver and sends another trade.
no one gives a ♥♥♥♥ about this cos valve ain't ♥♥♥♥ they'll never be a good selling company nor refunding stuff back or making wishes but no promises whatsoever nevertheless there's nothing more to expect from these faithless cowards who don't even know how to ban people properly or to give items back to them, they don't care how much ya inventory costs even if you have a damn trillion they will still prevent you from trading and selling those items

"Never be a good selling company" Yep, with millions of daily users. Sure.
And they know how to return items, they dont want and don't need to.
SSA: The user is responsible for all actions taken on his account. Includes trades aswell. And the system is safe: you just can get scammed when you want to.

How is it Valve's fault that people click on phishing links, and/or use shady sites and enter their Steam login details , including authenticator codes even , on them and get their own accounts compromised ?

Stop blaming Valve for a user-created problem.

How much hand-holding do people WANT?
this happened to me day before yesterday when i login form my steam apps my profile pic was gone my name changed to 7483836382(not the exact) all my profile comments were gone even my friendlis are gone and even my profile was privated seems to look like banned account in the description they wrote that my acc will soon be banned. and trade all items to another account.
This happens because one of my friend who is not even playing csgo match ( means only ingame with no match even deathmatch or casual) looks like he used to play steam message me and asked me to join the tournament as they were only 4 members . I ignored his request and still gave me a link to subscribe their team and begged me . i go to the link and on the website and look their tournament chart when i clicked the subscribe button there was an info that i need to login to their website and then i login thats what i got right now i missed my friend even my profile comments from my good matchmaking friends . Now ive learned a new lesson
thanks for helping me out
Lastly i apologise for my english grammar and the tenses may not be correct but i hope the readers may understand )
Thank You for your time on reading my reply☺️☺️
