Is it safe to install Cheat Engine?

!! JUST TO CLEAR THIS, I AM NOT INSTALLING CHEAT ENGINE TO CHEAT IN CS:GO !!
!! AND I AM NOT GOING TO CHEAT IN ANY GAME THAT IS VAC SECURED !!

Is it safe to install Cheat Engine and use it in 3D pinball (Old Windows Vista Game), or will the VAC be triggered instantly if I install it on my computer?

And if you don't know anything about VAC, don't comment in this thread. :-)

I would read exactly how the program works, how you disable it, how you avoid making mistakes and stuff like that.
I would also never leave it running in any way while steam is running.
I probably wouldn't risk possibility getting a VAC ban just to cheat in an old pinball game, even if the chance would be low.

If you want to test stuff with less risk you can use http://virtualbox.org/ to run a virtual machine and cheat on that thing.

Theres conflicting opinions on whether or not it will cause a ban simply by being installed on your PC. I'd imagine that you need to have it A.) Running and B) hooked into a VAC secured game process to be banned. BUT im not going to check.
If you really want to install it, go ahead, but you assume 1000% of the risks involved with any bans that might come your way.

I remember on my old laptop, this was a few years ago... I had Cheat Engine installed and I was playing CS:GO and COD etc... I remember that I never knew what Cheat Engine was and I did never run it either but it was installed on my computer so I assume that installing Cheat Engine is okay but running CS:GO and Cheat Engine at the same time will trigger VAC.

Will Steam Bootstrap look for Cheat Signatures applications?

Since you are the one that didnt know anything about the VAC system, i will try to enlighten you, you dont get a VAC for just running Cheat Engine.........

No, it won't trigger a ban by simply having it installed.

And your friend was obviously lying, because cheat engine needs to be hooked onto a game process in order for it to do anything with it. I've had cheat engine running years ago while playing a vac-protected game. It was used for a different game and I had it open with tf2, no vac ban.

Even with all these people who say it's safe and the risk seems very low.
Consider how much it is worth for you to try just for this pinball thing and what you risk to loose if you screw something up or if someone here doesn't know everything (including me)

What you do know is for sure is what you would loose if you got VAC banned and what you are trying to do with this tool and how important you think it is for you.

So long as no cheats are installed/running on the device when an account is connected to a secured server, then VAC will not apply a ban.

For any other use of cheats regardless of server, remember your contractual obligations:

You acknowledge and agree that either Valve or any online multiplayer host may refuse to allow you to participate in certain online multiplayer games if you use Cheats in connection with Steam

Yeah. Just dont run it while on a VAC secured server.

I would be vac banned then... I have cheat engine and multiple debuggers installed on my comp.
