Server-Side Anti-Cheat
Hey guys,

So in support of the purpose of this forum (to discuss the anti-cheat). I keep hearing about the linux ban wave that apparently was caught by some server-sided anti-cheat? I have been googling and researching but apparently I am blind because I find no articles related to this new apparent miracle worker lol. So what do you guys know about it? Does anyone have any links discussing how it works etc? Find it interesting and honestly I hope that if it's true, then I believe it can do a lot of work. Been playing for 10+ years (my original account got lost somewhere, this one's only 9 years old) and I have never once considered that Valve might implement such a thing as a server sided anti-cheat, so I'm crossing my fingers it works wonders!

I highly doubt valve is going to explain how this works and allowe cheaters to start trying to bypass it. The only people who probably know how it works are the vac team.

I'd just enjoy the fact a large number of cheaters have been banned.

Understandable, just figured they'd at least announce its existence at least. Those are the articles I was looking for, guess there are none though. Makes you wonder how people know it exists without any official word on it.

Valve often does things quietly and quickly without warning.

As to how people know what the new anti-cheat mechanics I'm not to sure.

For someone with a 9 year old account and 2300+ hours on CSGO, you should know that CSGO has 3 types of anti-cheats to include VAC, Overwatch and a third developer anti-cheat.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Lol, I dunno. I just thought it was common knowledge that CSGO had its own anti-cheat in addition to VAC and Overwatch. I mean, no biggie if you don't know. If you don't cheat, then it's not really something you need to worry about.
i just thought it was adding to your statement.

No links or discussions on how it works or even what exactly changed. We can only observe on the types of people that got banned and extrapolate on what happened. Some have been monitoring cheat forums and chats closely to record what cheats and who got caught. I am aware of Overwatch, I've been here since the closed beta phase so I've seen the progress of it. Though I do not integrate myself into casual or the official servers so I am mostly focused on private based platforms. They tend to have their own anti-cheats but they aren't official enough to ban off accounts. This "hidden" server side anti-cheat is new to me I admit, which was why I was asking about it.

I did notice that post actually, nice catch though thanks for pointing it out anyway. Was a nice read :)

Here's a famous one in case you missed it.
In hindsight...it's starting to make sence now.
There's 2 possible ways A cheat singnature can be interpreted that I can think of and I'm no expert.

Anything the Vac Team comment on is worth reading twice

Oh that's great input, yeah I had not seen that before. Looks like it is being implemented eventually after all :). Just hope a machine that's learning doesn't go too far and start giving false positives, that's the only thing that worries me about AI adaptations. Probably won't be the case though.
