Why can't I sign OUT of the mobile app?
I can't sign out of the mobile app? I click logout and it says:

"the account you are attempting to sign out has an active steam guard authenticator on this device. Please migrate or remove your authenticator and try again"

So you have to have your Steam app logged in 24/7 now?? So if someone steals my phone they can just open up the Steam app and have access to my account. If I lose my phone and someone finds it they have access to my account. If my family members steal my phone they can open steam app because it is logged in.

Are you serious Gaben? Previously I was able to log out of the app, but still see my authenticator codes when I opened the app, so I could log in on my pc.

It says this update was meant to make it easier to log in.. not make it easier for someone to access my account. I am not interested in your QR codes the normal codes were just fine.

Who would've thought that returning to email Steam Guard over mobile authentication would become so attractive? Had to disable mine on the app just to log out, which means I have to settle for trade holds for awhile.

This makes me wonder what the purpose of the R##### code means at this point, even though I wrote mine down for safe keeping before I deleted the app?

I trust my email even less than i do the app but the app is no longer safe either in case of theft.

In either scenarios my mind won't be at ease anymore :/

If the worst case scenario happens and you lose your phone and they open your app they can get your recovery codes too.
The chances of someone with the knowledge to bypass app pin locks and whatever else security layer u have setup is pretty low, also ive only ever lost 1 phone in my entire life, but this still sucks and is backwards.
Although the steam app may not be a theif or persons priority target in a mugging or whatever brings them to be in possession of your phone.. there are still many people who would value their steam account like they would a bank account. Imagine if a banking app forced you to be logged in.
All we can hope for is Valve will see the number of complaints being made and eventually come around to fixing something with the new app. I can take app instability if I have to but not the inability to perform one of the single most fundamental functions of any online account.

Support already confirmed that it is a design choice for it to not let you sign out.

Not sure that's possible, you must have had an active internet connection if the app connected to the internet to download an update. I doubt the app can secretly access your internet.

The authenticator still works if you aren't connected to the internet. If you are really worried that a Kevin Mitnick skilled uber hacker might get hold of your cybernetic device, you can have a spare cheap throwaway phone for authenticators. You can setup auth codes on that instead of your main phone and leave it disconnected from the internet then only connect to update the app.

Im turned off WiFI and LTE for sure! So how is it possebil to get updates form this App?
i actually cant close my app on my phone.
Disable Steam Guard. Sign out.

Sign in again and re enable Steam Guard
again and will be able to sign out again without any problems

Tried this and it doesn't work.
And now they forced it on human country's to.. Its just insane how those McFatties are in business. I already made a proposal and objection to our local enforcement.
And since im so sick and tired of the low level of IQ at valve, we will push the ban for gambling boxes further on to the whole EU again. Not only in our country's. Its just freaking mindbugling how little valve can think, and if not for the extreme low iq off its target audience would never have survived. I expect this thread to be bombarded soon, since they stated forze this on human country's to
Solution for most, disable steam guard, and use email vertification instead.

Phones are now an attack vector against Steam accounts.

This cannot be emphasised enough. For some bizarre reason (I cannot think of a technical excuse for this behaviour), Valve decided to force accounts to stay signed in on mobile/cell phones unless you stop using them as an authenticator. But the problem with this is that an attacker now only needs to gain access to your phone in order to sign into Steam. Can Valve personnel explain what the engineering thinking is behind this?
