Except he hijacks the phone instead which is much easier. You need to confirm trades done on the phone with the phone ...
1FA being the highest form of security instead of the 3FA before and some people actually believe this.
I guess since you keep repeating yourself I'll keep repeating myself.
Staying ahead of hijackers is like staying ahead of cheating. It's a moving target. Currently there's no malware/phishing effective on the phones themselves. The PC is chockful of it, and daily there's tons of people getting hijacked by RAT's trading away their items while they're at their computer or sleeping.
This change combats the most common form of getting hijacked right now.
Will it stay like this forever? Probably not. Yes, the phone will be the next target. Is that a problem right now? Not yet.
When it happens, will they go back to how it was? Not likely. In fact, if at some point they'll agree with you that it's pointless to keep adding more security, then the most likely next step is just enforcing the 3 day wait for everyone. Give no one a way out.
Because the 3 day wait is a very effective step against hijackers, and there's no way around it (if they remove the phone exception)
There still isn't any increased security at all, only more hassle for legit users. Scammers got an easier route to steal all items in people's accounts, they just need some time to code the new malware. If you can call that increased there really is something wrong with you.
Unless you really are suggesting Steam comes up with a new useless "security" feature every month to annoy every user ever further.
He probably is one of those users that clicked on a stupid link and lost all his items. i seriously can't understand how he can defend FORCING something upon LEGIT users.
Best alternative is still allow people who are able to take care of themselves to trade freely. The people who require special attention can stay in whatever sandbox they want to. Everyone wins.
Idk how many times I will say this, just add this as an optional protection option and as an alternative to this one for people who don't have a smartphone add an SMS code , it's that simple.
Codes don't expire as fast as they seem, all they need is for some malware that tricks you into entering a code via sms for them to be able to use that code to trade your ♥♥♥♥ away.
The app solves this by showing you every trade on your phone so keyloggers can't trade without you actually confirming it.
If you got that response you should have included your response.
They don't want more optional layers of security, they want less stolen items and this was their desperate move. Only way to keep non smartphone owners trading was to use this hold.
Also the tricks change all the time, some are quite more subtle then you might know.
They did post a very long text about it, not sure if you have read it because you seem to misunderstand why they did this: http://store.steampowered.com/news/19618/
