Generally I find I listen to JPop during long grinds on some games, but if I'm not bored and want something to liven the mood, I just listen to the music/sfx from the game because the music would distract me otherwise.

I rarely listen to my own music. When I do, it's usually because the game doesn't have music of it's own playing. If I do listen to music, it'll be something like Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Ince Nails, Caravan Palace, the free songs you can get from iTunes, and even songs from other games.
