mass effect no invent nothing, the combat is meh, art is meh... dragon age the same, that type of franchises are a reitaration of old games, and have much dead time, and much no sense content, no fun. I say baldurs gate I & II, but are extremely slow games, with deat times etc... boring as hell, are statistics simulators with no flow.
Command and conquer and civilization, ok, but civilization is a bit boring, many dead times
This is a list for people with extreme good taste and knowledge about what a videogame is, and the evolution of this art to a perfect balance design with no void content.
plus the 99% of new games are "copys" of that franchises.
Command & Conquer where
Ultima
Final Fantasy
GTA
Baldur's Gate
Worms
Metal Gear Solid
Yep!
So, dear community, how do we become relevant?
Well, first we should stop using the word: “videogames” and instead use the word: computer games. Because by no means the play must be based on visuals only. The play can also be audible only. So why do these people persist in calling them video games?
Anyway, back on the topic of video games:
Super Mario.
That said, it's a decent enough list of games, but there's far far more from my perspective (too many to list).
First off, I'd include the very first gaming "series" or dev that offered some repeated quality for me - Ultimate (later Rare). Their ZX Spectrum games were stellar and I could never wait until their next game. They always absorbed so many sleepless nights for me. The first one I encountered was Jetpac.
Then I went and picked up their earlier games, Psst and whatever the other one was . But going forward, Atic Atac was one I was so immersed in I diligently drew out the map for the house. Then Sabre Wulf, which I didn't draw out as it was 256 rooms and too bloody big.
And so on.
The more recent Mario series (the 3D ones) have been ones I've throughly enjoyed too and deserve mention.
But generally I'm not too keen in dividing things up into franchise as I'm more concerned in individual games - and for that I fondly nail my flag to the PS2 era - so many great games on that platform.
I can't honestly look at a whole series when there's problems and only one or two greats. Of course, the degree of "stink" is also a factor.
