buying a game with $20 steam gift card

i got a $20 steam gift card so i can buy a $15 game but when i put it my cart it wants me to use a payment method and that make me worries that it will use credit card money to buy the game and not the steam gift card. what should i do?

you dont use the gift card like a credit card. you have to add the gift card to the account first. then you will have a balance in your steam wallet to use when you finalize the purchase.

it says my current wallet balance is $20 but nothing changed i still can't buy the game what do i do?

On checkout it should offer the option to use your Steam wallet?

for some reason it doesn't show the option to use my steam wallet just says choose payment method

Then click on that, and choose your payment method. In your case, preferable choose Steam Wallet

i clicked and selected steam wallet but it wants me to put where i live zip code and billing address. do i type that stuff in and then will it use my steam gift card to pay for the game?

Yes, but you have to fill in your billing address first. Don't worry, Valve won't send you a letter .

Yeah, you'll be fine, they can't access other payment methods by just having you enter your address. You'd have to give them the full card details as well for them to be able to.

I even used one of those pre paid debit cards and they accepted that. Since i do not like putting my personal cards online, i only ever use giftcards or pre paid cards. Both work fine.
