Meaning of the colours around avatars

Silly question perhaps, but I have observed that some of my friends have green outlines to their avatars whilst others have blue outlines.... I have seen red? or orange too it seems....
I am just curious as to whether these colours indicate anything? or if this is something a Steam member can alter at their discretion?

blue - online, not playing a game
grey - offline
red - busy(?)

There isn't red, as far as I'm aware (at least not on the forums).

Yeah there isn't a red, blue covers everything that isn't playing a game or offline.

In client, probably not. In a web browser you could use an extension like Stylus and modify the css.
