Trading Cards: Foil Badges worth it?

I've never made a foil badge. They're a lot more expensive than normal badges, either in money or trades, and I was wondering if you get anything that makes up for that cos the xp reward seems to be the same.

You get to show you have crafted a foil badge, nothing else, and by get to show i mean it's just another badge on your profile.

Definitely trade or make them into gems, they're just for bragging rights.

Foil cards are a waste of money. You can either spend 25-30p collecting a set for a normal game earning 100XP per badge or you can spend 60p+ on just a single foil card totalling £3+ for the set just to earn a poxy 100XP also. Dedicated badge collectors love them but if you just want to improve your steam rank; normal cards are the cheapest way.

Ok gems it is. Unless I can fob them onto someone who cares about foil badges.

Noooo. Check the foil prices before turning them into gems. Some foils can and will sell for $1 (or more). A 200 gem foil that sells for $1.15 is currently worth 2,000 gems on the open market, 10 times its weight in gems. For a card to gem conversion to be worth it at 200 gems, the card would have to sell for less than 12¢. For a 100 gem foil, less than 7¢, 300 gem foil, less than 19¢. If anything, sell the foils, don't convert them into gems, then buy gems with the proceeds.

I have some holiday foils. Is it worth selling them? might wait til the end of the sales to but them on the market the price could rise then.

The price always goes down on Holiday Cards. On the last day, the price will plummet as more and more folks who thought they'd cash in figure out that it's better to either make a few pennies or buy a few to complete the badge. I think the regulars were all going for 3¢ last Holiday sale just before the end, with tens or hundreds of thousands unbought. If you plan on selling them, sell them now. I think they're still sitting over 30¢. The foils should also plummet as people dump them in droves, probably not down to 3¢, but maybe under 10¢. You see all of those 3¢ buy orders sitting out there? THOSE are the guys who already know this and planned for it. Putting in 3¢ orders now won't help, not when you're down at the bottom of a list 100,000+ long. Plus, you'll still need the time to craft them all as they fly into your inventory. No, I haven't done this, but I do know folks have.

Imo, its a waste of money to craft Foil Badges. Most of the Foil badges ( except Foil Badges of Holidays, for example Holiday Sale 2014 ) have only one level, and its only 100xp. But the cards cost pretty much more than normal cards without Foil.
Only if you find a cheap foil badge, than craft it.
