Refund for double-bought game?
I tried to buy a game as a gift for my friend but I got an info on the steampowered.com website that the purchase has failed. I waited a little bit to see if a mail appeared, it didn;t so I tried again.

I turns out I actually bought the game twice. Second copy was declined by my friend and is now in my inventory, I didn't install it or touch in any way. Any chance to get money back?

Of course I have contacted steam support but they respond very rarely, so... maybe I'll at least get to know if something can be done or not.

You could always trade it for another game, people trade a lot.

That's not really the point. I was tricked into buying the game twice and I wouldn't like Steam to tell me "you know thats totally fine, you can waste time on finding a buyer or getting a good trade, coz, no refunds policy and stuff".

Refund should be possible but you won't really get your money back to you bank account. They are able to put money back in your Steam Wallet only.

Yeah. I can't even do anything you could normally do due to customers rights because they'll just ban me. That's what one gets for buying a product from an evil corporation ;(

Do not mistake what you THINK your rights are versus what they ACTUALLY are

You only have rights afforded to you by the service and your government

And steams no refund policy is 100% legal

Want more rights? Go scream at your government. Because a company has no obligation to give you more rights than you're entitled to by law.

You have the "right" to do a chargeback

Just as Steam has the "right" to ban you for committing fraud

Depends on what country you live in, here in Australia its illegal to not give us a refund.

There is a big court case over it.

Of course i know that what they do is legal. It is legal only because they've found a loophole in the regulations. Normally, in my country, anytime you buy something on the internet, you have 10 days to return it if you wish. Steam however got a brilliant idea: they don't "sell", they provide a "subscription service". Tada, no selling, no rights for the customer. This is why I consider it evil, but because Steam is mandatory for 90% of games "sold" today, I have no choice.

But let's wait and see if I get any response. It is a little bit too early to start a flamewar, maybe I'll get a refund and everything will be okay :)

And again who gives you those rights?

oh yes its your government!

If you don't have 'right's its because your government hasn't given them to you. Again don't confuse rights you WANT with rights you HAVE. If you don't have something go whine to your government about it.

Are you sure you got two copies? If you have one in your inventory, where is the other copy? Did you check your friends account to see if it was activated on his/her account?

Sometimes when a game is said to have failed, it will still show in your bank/card account. When that happens, it may be a "hold" and not a charge.

A hold will drop off your account int 3-5 buisness days, depending on the bank.

I am totally sure I got billed twice because I see it on my bank's website. And yes, I have two copies: one copy of the game is at my friend's account (as it was a gift for him) and second was declined by him so it is in my inventory as a "pending" gift.

Double check the Steam Account settings on your account. THat will show if the transaction actually went through. Stuff on your banking website tends to be delayed, if a transaction failed on Steam's end then it shows as a 'double billing' until the system clears out after a few days.

You can try asking for a Refund but again, its kinda unlikely.

I indeed have two purchases.
If you see a fail message,
you dont have to pay for that.

Something like this almost happened to me, bought 3 games for inventory as gifts eariler today, which went through and logged off. Just logged in now and the 3 items where still in the card with a notice that prices have changed, so I removed them from cart, then looked in inventory -games are there, cheaked account transactions and gift transaction did go through but items somehow stayed in cart.

To me this fail message meant that the transaction didn't work at all so I need to purchase the game again (especially considering there was no mail initially). Now I know it is not true, but, eh, "now".

Nasty stuff. I'll certainly be much more careful with using steam now and no more gifting ever.
