Why is this called the exploration sale?
Why is this event called the "Exploration Sale" on the main store page? It doesn't seem to correlate to my explore/dicovery que/feed. Also, when you go to game's store pages it describes the sale as the Autumn sale. Is there some kind of competition or event that I am missing?

Its just a autumn sale. But you really should just look up simple questions with the search filter

I don't think it's themed in any way, it's just a dumb name as usual.

Well, the store update a few months ago was coined "Discovery Update" and the last big sale took place on an island where those new mascots fought over who was first to climb a mountain, so it does make sense. To some degree. Maybe it will make even more once we know the theme for the winter sale.

The closest I could find was this one: http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/624076027515741436/ and i guess I should of just added to it, but it still does not have a concrete answer. What thread did you find that had the real/official answer?

When I go to the news feed all it says is this :
The Steam Exploration Sale is here! For the next six days, take advantage of huge savings throughout the Steam store on thousands of titles. Plus, discover new and recommended games on your personalized Exploration Sale page here. Check back each day for new Daily Deals.

when I click the "here" link it just takes me to the top of the news page.

I think you guys got so used to meta-games you're overlooking the obvious.

"5000something games on sale!"- thats it. They decided to make it more obvious how much of the whole store is on sale and- considering that number- finding what you want or hidden jewels is... exploration.

The 2 explorers on top the store page are pointing their best findings for gods sake! You may take their suggestion or explore moar. Thats it with the theme and name. And no, no meta-gaming this time.

As always steam is testing grounds. They've been testing stuff every sale, but after the sales got this format, size and expectation they never did one... that simple. No flash sales, etc, etc. Thats a test as well. Does people buy more without meta-games? Doesn't the meta gaming makes people hold their cash too long? This sales results will point better directions for the next ones.

I get what your saying but the the name just seems to suggest that it is something different than the autumn sale as it is described on all the individual store pages. The only thing to explorers are highlighting are the daily deals which happen with most multi-day sales without calling them special things like secret/hidden daily deals brought to you by the discovery of some explorers.

I was just expecting a better tie in with your explore/discovery que to maybe suggest games it normally might not because of sale prices or something more unique/tied in I don't know.

Probably not. The sale doesn't say anything about special cards, and forums don't seem to be flooded with trade requests.

You're right, @Kargor. On the Steam News section, that sale didn't tell additional information about collecting, trading, and crafting the cards. Sorry, I missed about it.

By the way thank you. I am waiting the next sale, Steam Winter/Holiday Sale. :break:

http://store.steampowered.com/explore/recommend/
You now get the listing of the games on your wishlist which are on sale.
Same for DLC on sale for your owned games.
You also get a recommendation list of the games on sale (Like the exploration queue, but restricted to sale items)
