As these is likely a game related problem, i recommend you ask on the game Hub
Each game on Steam has its own Hub, with its own forums, and in most cases best place to find answers for problems abut a specific game
You can find hubs in many ways 2 ways are:

There seems to be a bug with savegames......
------------------------------
Thank you for replying.
Yes I do - I run Steam in offline mode most of the time, but not on purpose.
I have Steam checked to NOT start when I boot the computer because it takes a long time and uses too many resources AND its window opens onto the desktop - my wife hates that.
(There must be some way to stop that?)
Instead, when I want to play, I click my Steam shortcut on my quick-launch bar to start Steam.
Most of the time it can't connect and it asks if I want to play in offline mode, so I agree.
( It doesn't matter to me if I'm on or offline. )
Not sure why it can't connect - we have a full time Internet connection.
Sometimes it does connect right away, and in both cases I get to play my game.
But last night it happened again - I got as far as The Hive when I quit playing for the night. Then today when I booted the computer and started Steam and Deus Ex, my saved game was gone.
I will allow it to run at start-up for a week or two and see if I still lose my saved games.
It's at least somewhere to start and something to try. I hoped there was a well-known fix.
It would be really nice to solve this problem.
It's not much good if I can't eventually get to the end of the game.
Again - thanks for replying.
Try to find out why steam cant connect. Meanwhile lets hope steam fixes this offline mode save bug

Also try maybe to disable the Firewall and antivirus and see if that helps
Thanks. I went to the link you provided but that stuff is much too technical for me these days. I'm just an old guy who wants his game to work properly. I know from experience that even if I get this problem fixed, it will only be a matter of time before another problem will mess it up again. I might just have to say goodnight to Deues Ex and good riddance to Steam. In my younger days I would have tackled these problems head on and would have won, but I'm old and tired. I thought a new game would be nice, and since I have played the crap out of the original Deus Ex game, I thought this one would be fun. And it is, but I don't care for the Steam platform. Although I appreciate the help, I don't need Steam and its issues causing me grief. For now, I can play the game until whatever it is that causes my save games to disappear happens. Sometimes I get 3 or 4 days before I lose the saved game. Sometimes the saved game is there and I can continue, and sometimes it's not. I never know until I run the game.
I will check my firewall and McAfee virus program - I know how problematic they can be.
I will post anything new I find that works.
Thanks again.
Honestly, dont give up on gaming just as a small bug.. these things are over all pretty rare
It was that last client update that caused my problem, or that's how it appears because everything worked fine for 3 weeks, then this started.
The first time it happened I lost the game I had been playing for 3 weeks. And of this I'm not certain, but I think I also stopped Steam from starting with Windows at that time, but unsure.
Then the new game that I started was lost immediately on the next reboot.
This final game lasted 3 or 4 days, then disappeared last night.
I had been allowing Steam to start with Windows again.
I was able to save and keep games for that 3 or 4 days.
Then just yesterday I stopped Steam from starting with Windows again, and then today my saved game was gone. It sure looks like Steam wants to start with Windows.
I will try Google search as you suggest. I hope I can fix this - I'm getting tired of fighting with it.
Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks to you and everyone for trying to help. I do appreciate it!

I don't know if it's [ the ] final solution, but I have had some success!!
I managed to get some of my saved games back!
The short story...
- Installed Game and Steam on Christmas day
- Saved a bunch of games
- Disabled Steam Cloud Syncronization
- Everything was fine for 3 weeks until Steam Client Update, then...
- Lost saved games
- Uninstalled Game
- Re-installed Game
- Saved games
- Lost saved games
- Re-enabled Steam Cloud Syncronization
- Used Steam Backup and Restore option
- Replaced new information on PC with older Cloud information
- Found lost games!
The long story...
A few days ago I uninstalled my game because I was angry that it wouldn't keep saved game data. I was washing my hands of this problem once and for all. But I missed my game, so I decided to reinstall it a couple days ago and work on a solution. I did not uninstall Steam for some reason.
Yesterday, after a rant and some advice in a different post, I decided to enable Steam Cloud Syncronization again. That was one of the first things I had disabled in Steam - not sure why I did that, but it was within a day or two of installing Steam on Christmas day.
Also yesterday, after all your suggestions got me thinking, I decided to use the Back-up and Restore option in Steam. I still don't know why I tried that - I had no save game data to back-up and I saw no reason to back-up the entire game itself. I guess when you're desperate, you'll try anything and hope.
But once the back-up was complete, there was a pop-up message telling me that the back-up information in Cloud was different from the back-up information on my computer and asking me what I wanted to do about it? Huh? That made no sense? I had not backed anything up since installing my game. I had only saved my game (ingame). It said the information on the Cloud was older than the information on my computer.
?What information - at that point I was still thinking that all I had backed-up was the game itself.
So to me it made sense to download the older information to my computer. I mean, why would it be different from the data on my computer? If I could get a look at the information on the Cloud, maybe I could see what was wrong.? I had just reinstalled the entiire game. Everything should be the same, but it wasn't.
Apparently Steam Cloud Syncronization was saving my game without my knowledge. Or rather it synced my information, which had included saved games. Now not all my saved games were there - all that were saved before disabling Steam Cloud Syncronization were there, but none after disabling it, or so it appears.
The true test will come if I am able to keep playing my game without losing saved games. That remains to be seen, but I'm hopeful that we've rooted out the problem - or at least my problem - I don't know if this applies to others.
It should be mentioned that even after losing my original saved games, I was able to play and save games - I was just never sure when I would lose them again, but I always did. I think that has something to do with Cloud Sync and playing online / offline, although I'm not certain about that as are some of you.
Either way, for now I have my games back and can move forward cautiously hoping I can keep them. I might be back here in a day or two pulling my hair out and screaming again!
Thank you very much - all of you - for helping me. Even though no single suggestion was the specific answer, all of them together kept me thinking and trying to solve this issue! Hopefully it may help someone else sometime! Thanks again!
