It clearly says it as one of the very first developer messages, aking to "Hi Im Gabe Newell, and any queries about anything can be sent to blah blah blah"

It's not that surprising really. Any smart owner/CEO/whatever that deals with a public business knows that you need to keep as clear a link to your customers as possible to keep up. Doing it this way also allows him to fiter out the crap too.

And he tends to respond to ANYTHING, regardless. Ask him about Half Life 3, play a joke on him, protest against him, they've ALL been met with cordial and better responses.

Well most public finger i know abut that have there email publicly, do not respond a short time after opening, as of all the spam they get
So for me it is a pretty big surprise :D:

I realise that, but it really boils down to how professional you are, and how much you care.

It's not difficult to employ a specific secretary and have a single use email account, to be frank. It's a shame it seems to be exception rather than rule.
