What games can be played with one hand?

Ok, this probably needs to be said: I'm not some weird fetishist, and this is an honest question. :)

I'm a new grandpa, and often my grandson will fall asleep on my lap, which means I can't play anything that requires a keyboard or gamepad (because I need to keep one hand on him so he doesn't roll). So, I've been trying to find games that can be played with just the mouse (and I'd like to think this thread could be useful for one-armed gamers as well). I was tempted to add some roguelikes to the list (which are technically playable with just the mouse), but the problem with games like bitDungeon II is that it's always better to be able to maneuver using the keyboard while attacking, whereas using just the mouse will get you killed in pretty short order.

So, there have to be a lot more, but these are the ones I've tried so far. Are there any others? Cheers!

Congratulations on becoming a new grandpa!!!

I tried Epic Battle Fantasy 4 with one hand but found it irritating to use the just the mouse for navigation so ended up with both hands often. It's possible, just not optimal.


Sometimes my dog ends up on my lap with her head on my arm and I don't like to wake her. :P I've found most puzzle games, card games, board games, time management/tycoon games and point and click adventure games will be fine with one hand and usually only need a mouse without a keyboard which is easier. Most other games tend to be better with a few hotkeys on the keyboard.


Examples just from what I've played and can remember:

The arcade shooter, Titan Attacks only needs a mouse.

Hidden object games like Artifex Mundi games such as Nightmares from the Deep only require one hand.

Faerie Solitaire is a card game so only one hand needed. If that's a bit too boring for you, I recently started playing Talisman and it's surprisingly fun. The Tiny Bang Story was great with just a mouse I think.

I've been playing Titan Quest and it seems to fare fine with just a mouse for considering it is an ARPG. Hero of the Kindom 1 and 2 both only needed a mouse and were light and entertaining classic RPG style adventure games.

Neverending Nightmares seems to be fine with just one hand on the keyboard (obviously this would be to the left side of an average keyboard).

As mentioned, time management games like Game Dev Tycoon are all about the mouse. :)

Valiant Hearts will need both mouse and keyboard but you only use one at a time so can make do with one hand no worries. Point and click adventure games like Soul Gambler, A Golden Wake, The 39 Steps etc all only require a mouse. A Golden Wake actually needs the keyboard when you're naming a save file.

From what I remember, Worms is fine with one hand whether it be keyboard or mouse.

Hexcells, like Lynn is good for just the mouse.

I see someone already mentioned this but if you think you may end up with your grandson on your lap more often now, then you could try a mouse with extra customisable thumb buttons and widen the list to most ARPGs.
