My first post to the "Steam Community". Why do a ton of Gmod Maps have to have CSS/CSGO installed in order to play?

I want to download maps but sometimes there are maps where some objects and textures disappear unless you buy CS Source/CS Global Offensive. Please tell me why.

My guess is that they're borrowing items and textures from those games. Without the games installed, they can't load the items and textures into the maps.

Yup, lots of gmod maps use assets from most other source games. Otherwise you'll just get big purple errors where the texture/asset is supposed to be.

Which is why unless you build the maps yourself, it's advised to have CS/CS2 and the HL games installed.

As others have said, they use the same source engine and assets from CS game engine.

Why doesn't people just imbed the textures in to the game. I need to pay so I CAN PLAY A MAP!

That would be stealing content. Their map would get taken down on a DMCA claim.

Those files are copyrighted so they cannot provide them.
